A controversial text has recently surfaced claiming that Jesus had a wife and two children with her as well. The text, which defies conventional wisdom, also adds that his wife was the true “Virgin Mary,” not her mother, as we know.
The manuscript, which is dubbed the “Lost Gospel,” was recently uncovered in the British Library. According to The Sunday Times, this document, which dates back 1,500 years, suggests that Jesus had wed Mary Magdalene, a character cast as a prostitute in history.
The manuscript was originally in Aramaic and was later translated, revealing that Magdalene played a key role in Jesus Christ‘s life despite numerous scholars saying otherwise.
Experts such as Professor Barrie Wilson and author Simcha Jacobovic spent a great time trying to decode the “Lost Gospel.” They have confirmed that, according to the document, Jesus fathered two children with Mary Magdalene. The experts also insist that the “true” Virgin Mary was actually Christ’s spouse, not her mother, reports The Mirror.
Despite various controversies, her pivotal role has always taken a center spot throughout many existing gospels. The new revelation further solidifies the speculation about a marital bond between the two.
Notably, this isn’t the first time that Jesus and Magdalene had been linked together. In his novel, The Last Temptation of Christ (1953), author Nikos Kazantzakis also brought similar allegations. His works was later adapted for screen by dircetor Martin Scorsese.

Similarly, Dan Brown also speculated about Jesus and Magdalene’s relationship in his contemporary hit The Da Vinci Code.
In the four canonical gospels, she is portrayed as a devoted disciple of Christ. However, she had a broader role in his ministry as well as his life. It is said that Mary Magdalene witnessed the haunting crucifixion and, subsequently, Jesus’ resurrection as well.
Most secular historians agree that she was also an important historical figure from that era, a real one, just like Jesus. She is also one of the very few people, especially women, by his side who got such major mentions throughout the gospels.
The Catholics, Anglicans, Easter Orthodox, and Lutheran denominations regard her as a saint. Eastern Orthodox Church observes the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers in her honor, while some Protestants also worship her as a heroine of faith.
In 2016, even Pope Francis conferred upon her the title of “Apostle of the apostles.” The liturgical commemoration took place on July 22, accompanied by a memorial and a feast. The Counter-Reformation of Roman Catholicism added “penitent” as the description of her feast day.
