After Kanye declared himself “the greatest living rock star on the planet” on a British stage, festival headliners Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who took issue with the bold statement. The iconic 60’s band headlined the Pyramid Stage on the final night of Glastonbury 2015, and used that stage to send Kanye a message he won’t soon forget. One thing is obvious, though: fans aren’t really sure after The Who performed what one fan called “a shambles of a set.”

People are demonising Kanye West and championing Pete Townshend..

It’s a free country, but only one is a nonce and it’s not Mr West.

In the closing set of the huge rock festival, after playing “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” Townshend started a “rebellion” against the rapper live on the same stage that Kanye once stood on. The aging icon challenged Kanye, querying, “Oh yeah, who’s the biggest rock star in the world?’” before Townshend “performed a mindblowing guitar solo,” reports Us Weekly .

The night before, Kanye told his raving fans at a British festival in Glastonbury, “I’m going to say this tonight because 20 years from now, 30 years from now, 40 years from now, I might not be able to say it, but I can say it tonight… You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet,” he yelled from the stage.

Imploding with cringe that Pete Townshend even mentioned Kanye’s ‘greatest rockstar’ comment in relation to their shambles of a set…

But The Who weren’t to be outdone, and threw some shade on Kanye. “We’re going to send you home now with a rebellious, ‘Oh yeah, who’s the biggest rock star in the world?’ “, the iconic rocker, Pete Townshend, shouted to fans . According to NME News, Townshend, who performed with the band at the festival in 2007, said “Here we are again. We’ve got a lovely, simple job to do tonight which is to send you home happy and maybe a bit deaf. So here we are.”

Pete Townshend played to a smaller crowd than Kanye, and said about The Who’s performance, “it could have been better, but it’s as good as it can be. It would have been better if we’d been able to soundcheck.” There’s no information about why Pete didn’t get a soundcheck.

Fans of both rockers aren’t sure who the biggest rock star is. One fan wrote “Imploding with cringe that Pete Townshend even mentioned Kanye’s ‘greatest rockstar’ comment in relation to their shambles of a set…” while another wrote, “It’s a free country, but only one is a nonce and it’s not Mr West.” “Pete Townshend taking the piss out of Kanye is perfect” said a third.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Kanye’s set was the biggest success at Glastonbury. It seems the jury is still out about whether Pete Townshend or Kanye is the biggest rocker.
