Google has been busily trying to choose which cities they would bring Google’s Fiber project to, however Google announced today on their official blog that they will be delaying the end of year announcement a bit longer as they work out bugs in their system.
Google’s new Vice President of Access Services, Milo Medin, explains in the blog post that Google is aiming for an “early 2011” selection date, citing the need to find the perfect places to launch the new Google Fiber network. Medin states that the process is still “closed” to new cities and that Google is simply trying to make sure the infrastructure for the system is setup to work with optimal performance.
Currently the only Google Fiber participants are Standford University professors, however Google has 1,100 cities around the country who are willing to launch the network should they be chosen.
