Portuguese wireless carrier TMN wants to make the world a cleaner place and to help with that goal they’ve announced plans to implement paper-based SIM card in their phones. The first device to feature those cards will be the Samsung Blue Earth.

The idea of a paper card may seem like a small step for the environment until you consider that the cards usually come inside a larger plastic card and that those cards are made from petroleum.

The recycled paper SIM cards come from supplier Incard and Toppan and are currently being worked into other devices that will be announced at a later time.

The Samsung Blue Earth offers WiFi, GPS and a 3.2MP camera, not bad for a phone running on paper and recycled paper at that. The cost is also decent with a price tag of €239 ($318 USD). [ SlashGear ]
