We are entering an era with perhaps the first anti-science administration, as Vice President Mike Pence does not believe in evolution. In a country that values and mandates the separation of church and state, Pence claims that he is a Christian first and a statesman second. But Pence is not alone; in a 2006 survey, the United States was only second to Turkey in the largest amount of people who don’t believe that humans evolved from animals or earlier species.

Mike Pence has also been clear that he wants to to abolish the birth control coverage mandate that requires employers to pay for birth control if it is against their religious views, says the Inquisitr . Pence also wants to remove the legislation that protects the rights of transgendered people when it comes to bathroom choice. Many people also fear that Pence and Trump want to do away with the Marriage Equality Act.

The Washington Post has gone through a number of scientific topics to quote Donald Trump and Mike Pence. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked Mike Pence about his thoughts on evolution and Darwin . Pence has also addressed Congress about teaching creationism in schools to balance out the Theory of Evolution.

“Do I believe in evolution? I embrace the view that God created the heavens and the Earth, the seas and all that’s in them.”

Pence has been clear that he believes Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is just that — a theory.

“Charles Darwin never thought of evolution as anything other than a theory. He hoped that someday it would be proven by the fossil record but did not live to see that, nor have we… And now that we have recognized evolution as a theory, I would simply and humbly ask, can we teach it as such and can we also consider teaching other theories of the origin of species?”

But many are saying that citizens should wait to see if Donald Trump shares these views with Mike Pence, as Trump does not have the history of strong religious views. In Washington, D.C., Donald Trump is the newbie and Mike Pence is his wingman , according to the Washington Times . As Donald Trump has never held elected office before, theories are swirling that Mike Pence might be the most influential vice president in history, says L. Brent Bozell, the founder of the Media Research Center.

“Donald Trump comes to Washington as the complete outsider who has never run for office before, who has never worked in Washington, who doesn’t know how to navigate these waters. Mike Pence is going to be that person who does it for him in Washington, D.C. He is the one with the experience.”

Forbes says as part of his agenda, Mike Pence wants the biblical story of creation taught in biology class alongside evolution. But the Pew Research Center says that Mike Pence is in good company, as many people in the United States agree with him.

“While 62% of adults say humans have evolved over time, 33% say this change is solely due to natural processes, with 25% saying evolution is guided by a supreme being. This response is strongly influenced by religious affiliation, with 91% of atheists accepting evolution through natural processes compared with 21% of Christians.”

With three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate, questions about science topics like the climate change, evolution, reproductive rights, and fracking were glossed over in favor of political squabbles.

Do you think that Donald Trump will support an anti-scientific agenda in favor of religious views?
