We can’t say why Saturday Night Live decided to pass on the airing of their Guy Fieri skit (because we don’t know), but it made its way online and is definitely worth three minutes of your time.
Guy Fieri has been in the news a lot lately over his restaurant, Guy’s American Bar and Grill, which opened to pretty bad reviews and one especially scathing critique by food critic Pete Wells for The New York Times . Fieri himself responded to the Wells piece , saying that it was “ridiculous” and touting his experience in the restaurant industry.
Things got really interesting when a fan of Fieri’s responded to the Times piece himself, point-by-point. For those of you who don’t know, Pete Wells’ piece was unique in that every sentence was a posed question. You can read the superfan’s extensive responses to these questions here .
What does this all have to do with Saturday Night Live ? The cut skit stars Bobby Moynihan as Guy Fieri dropping by Weekend Update to respond to the Times review. There’s just one problem. He hasn’t read it yet.
Though Moynihan’s bombastic Fieri seems excited about the Times review, he slowly works through it during the skit.
“Grouping me in with regular New York restaurants is like comparing apples and fat dirt,” Moynihan’s Fieri says, saying that while New Yorkers may turn up their noses at his cuisine, tourists who “just shopped at the M&M store and you’re wearing a foam Statue of Liberty visor,” will love his “awesome pretzel chicken tenders with a side of dump juice.”
