WWE Rumors: What’s Next For Roman Reigns After Kevin Owens Defeat At ‘Roadblock’?

There was a huge shocker at Roadblock last night: Despite all the odds pointing into Roman Reigns’ favor and suggesting that he would be one of the few wrestlers in history to actually wear two belts, he was defeated by Kevin Owens after a disqualification. Now, the WWE rumors mill suggests that there will be a few different ways the storyline for Reigns — and, to a lesser extent, Owens — will go in the new year. So, what’s everyone’s thoughts?

First, let’s take a look at the WWE rumors about Roman Reigns’ storyline from Fox News. According to the site, their claim of Roman Reigns returning to the main stage was a “big mistake,” especially after his ignoble defeat at the hands of Owens. Part of the reason why it was such a big mistake was because every move that he made was “scrutinized to death,” and he wasn’t allowed to simply grow and develop into the superstar everyone knew he could be.

“If there was a program that would benefit both Reigns and the Raw brand, it would be to have him take a step back and feud with Braun Strowman. It is an option that provides another means for having Reigns stay relevant, but not necessarily a focal point, until fans are a little more receptive to him being placed in the main event.”

Fox News, of course, is making reference to the WWE rumors about the upcoming WrestleMania 33 , in which Reigns and Braun Strowman are set to face off against one another. But according to Bleacher Report , Reigns’ defeat at Roadblock is actually setting the stage for another, more anticipated match: Royal Rumble .

According to Bleacher Report , this feud between Reigns and Owens is far from over, and we just might see a rematch between the two wrestlers for the Universal title at the Royal Rumble .

“Owens and Reigns have proved to have good in-ring chemistry, and that led to another entertaining encounter between them Sunday. Given the nature of Owens’ victory, one can only assume that his feud with Reigns will continue, and the likelihood is high that they will have a rematch at Royal Rumble in January with the Universal Championship on the line.”

Still, other WWE rumors suggest that this feud between Owens and Reigns is, in fact, over, and this is just an opportunity to give Reigns’ former Shield stablemate Seth Rollins a chance to finally shine.

According to the Mirror , as fans learned at the event, Seth Rollins soundly and surely defeated Chris “Y2J” Jericho, thereby setting the stage for him to become one of the most prominent faces in the WWE. However, the first thing the site was quick to point out was if Rollins continued to associate with the “deeply unpopular” Roman Reigns, he would be “tainted” by his association.

Furthermore, according to the site, Reigns’s disqualification at the hands of Owens was, in fact, thanks to Jericho’s interference in the fight between the two. As fans are well aware, Owens and Jericho are “frenemies,” and the fans never really know if Jericho is out for Owens’ best interests or his own. And while his interference in the Roadblock main event fight seemed to be on Reigns’ behalf, a seasoned wrestler such as himself had to know that his interference would be a disqualifier for Reigns. So, perhaps he did it on Owens’ behalf after all?
