San Francisco 49ers receiver Kyle Williams will miss the remainder of the 2012-2013 NFL season after tearing his ACL in the team’s 31-21 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Williams, 24, confirmed the injury’s severity through a post on Twitter.

The WR wrote :

“Regret to inform y’all I will be out for the season with a torn ACL. Not how I saw things playing out. This is just another obstacle I will have to climb to get back. Looking forward to the challenge!! Love all true fans your prayers are much appreciated.”

Prior to the injury, Williams, a sixth-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, had 14 catches for 212 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco’s first 11 games this season.

In addition to his WR contributions, Williams also played a role on the 49ers’ special teams unit, leading the squad this season with a 27.2-yard average on his 13 kickoff returns. He also had four punt returns and a 13.0-yard average.

ESPN notes that Kyle Williams is now the second 49ers player lost for the season this week, joining back up running back Kendell Hunter, who suffered a severe left ankle injury on the same play that Williams was hurt.

When asked if a pair of dormant top draft picks, receiver A.J. Jenkins and running back LaMichael James, might be called upon during the 49ers game against the Rams this week, coach Jim Harbaugh said:

“Yeah, I send that message to some of our young guys, some of our inactive guys that the opportunity is coming. You say that every week to them, ‘Be prepared, be prepared.’ You’d rather be prepared for your opportunity and have it not come than have your opportunity come and not be prepared. To both those youngsters’ credit, and others who have been working extremely hard for their opportunity, we feel good and excited that a couple of those youngsters will get that opportunity.”
