Kelly Emery, a drug addict mom who was jailed for killing her 2-year-old son, was found dead in a hostel in Maidstone, Kent on Friday, Oct. 13. The court indicted her for manslaughter as pieces of evidence showed her child, Fenton Hogan, had died after being fed with methadone, a synthetic drug that is similar to morphine and used as a substitute drug for treatment of heroin addiction.

Fenton died in 2013, but Kelly was only sentenced to six years in prison in 2015. Based on the reports, the toddler was getting in the way that Kelly could not sniff cocaine in peace, thus she decided to put him to sleep by giving him some methadone.

When her case was still being heard in Nottingham Crown Court, it was also discovered that this was not the first time that Kelly drugged Fenton with methadone. She already did it twice in the past however, she was acquitted both times.

At the time of his death, blood samples taken from Fenton showed he had a large amount of the drug in his system. They found he had as much as that of an adult who is on methadone maintenance therapy.

In any case, Birmingham Mail reported that Kelly Emery has always denied deliberately feeding her son with the drug. She claimed that 2-year-old Fenton could have accidentally ingested methadone after picking up the bottle she had left lying around.

With her claims, she only admitted child neglect and gross negligence resulting in death. This might have explained why she was not charged with murder and only got a short prison term.

She was than released from jail early after serving only half of her sentence. She was freed in September and after barely a month had passed, Kelly Emery was found dead.

According to Kelly’s mother-in-law, Lynn Heeldon, they heard that she could have died from a drug overdose, but they are still not certain.

“I heard it may have been an overdose but police have not done a post-mortem yet so we are not sure,” she told the Sun .

Finally, Heeldon stated that they felt weird after hearing about Kelly’s demise. She frankly admitted in the interview that she and her son Michael, Fenton’s dad, actually felt relieved since Kelly killed her grandson.
