Revealed in the WikiLeaks dump of DNC emails: Pat McCrory, the governor of North Carolina, was called a “moronic little bigot of a Tarheel governor.” That’s not all — the emails go on to mock Mccrory’s responses in an interview about HB2, the bill he signed into law that negatively affects the safety of transgender Americans in accessing public restrooms.

While the leaked emails have primarily been a subject of conversation over the appearance of favoritism in the DNC for one of the two major candidates during the primary, they also reveal other interesting conversations.

It’s not as though the opinion of Democratic Party officials and leadership about HB2 has been kept a secret. As WRAL reported months ago, President Obama has expressed that the law violates federal civil rights regulations, and there have been calls for an overturn.

In an email exchange between the DNC’s Akshai Bhatnagar and Pablo Manriquez, it is revealed that behind closed doors (or at least, behind screens), party officials and staffers were much more open with their contempt both for the discriminatory law and for Governor Pat McCrory’s defense of it.

Below, via Raw Story , you can see the interview on Fox News between Pat McCrory and Chris Wallace.

The email exchange between DNC staff gives a rundown of the interview,in a brief and snarky format.

Describing one of McCrory’s responses, Manriquez writes, “It’s the federal government being a, uh, uh, uh, bully.”

Yes, he said it just like that.

The introduction on the show is also mocked.

“We’ve got a really prejudice[d] guy here named McCrory…”

Discussing passing the interview on to another news show, he requests (bolding added here for emphasis), “If there’s anything else we should add…about this moronic little bigot of a tarheel governor or the bathrooms they’re using to distract from their epic failings as human beings and party officials , let me know.”

In another email , staffers cheer a concert cancellation resulting from HB2. Such cancellations have been widely lauded as the most likely path to having the discriminatory law repealed. In the email, forwarding the information to “our LGBT list” is mentioned, clearly with the intent to spread the word to those most likely to be affected and respond.

Other emails center around letting voters know about HB2’s effect on the state’s economy and sharing news articles about the law, and Pat McCrory’s defense of it, among the staff and officials.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, the battle over the law goes on, and the DNC isn’t the only group frustrated by it. According to the News and Observer , the most recent cancellation in the state came when the NBA announced the 2017 All-Star game would be moved out of Charlotte, North Carolina, as the organization had warned it would do since the passage of the law.

Pat McCrory called this decision “PC B.S.”

State Senator Phil Berger was the most vocal supporter of McCrory’s refusal to back down.

State Senator Jeff Jackson, meanwhile, has been perhaps the most vocal opponent of both the law and McCrory’s defense of it.

A dump truck loaded with $100m was rolling toward Charlotte. Gov. McCrory flagged it down, tossed a match in the back, and let it burn. #HB2

The NC Governor himself shared the leaked emails on social media.

In his own tweet about the DNC emails, Pat McCrory mentions the possibility of lost revenue to the state.
