A new firmware update is currently available for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge units, as well as for the 2016 flagship devices, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
The September security update has been spotted rolling out for T-Mobile variants of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The official change log noted that the 350MB firmware carries not only the latest security patch, but also provides time/date update, and an assortment of system improvements. The update brings software versions G930TUVU4APIA and G935TUVU4APIA to T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge , respectively.
A screenshot posted in GSM Arena’s report also revealed that the latest update available for T-Mobile variants of the latest flagship adds Samsung Cloud features and synchronization feature for videos, photos, and other files. T-Mobile subscribers using Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge should also expect to see backup and restore features for music files, documents, home screen, and apps, as well as a find a cloud management menu after installing the update.
Moreover, an update from a separate GSM Arena report shared that some unbranded variants of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in Europe also received the Samsung Cloud , as well as the new Gallery app with the previous firmware update carrying build number XXU1BPHJ. These two features were first introduced in Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
The latest security improvements are not only available to 2016 flagship devices as the last year’s models, the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus, are also getting their respective security patches. The English-translated report from a Dutch website Galaxy Club reported that the update for S6 and S6 Edge weighs around 140 MB, bringing the units to firmware version XXU4DPIL. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is getting the XXS3BPIA software update. It came with Google’s 66 major and minor fixes to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS, aside from Samsung’s very own fixes.
In addition to these flagship devices receiving the newest security update, the mid-range model Samsung Galaxy A8 is reportedly getting the September patch as well. XXU1BP12 firmware is currently available for the SM-A800F model bringing in a number of improvements aside from a stronger security. A recent GSM Arena post shared that users should find improvements in voice calling after installing the update. Furthermore, battery usage optimizations have been added and there should be “improved performance with efficient memory management,” according to the change log. The update also improved the stability of the smartphone.
These firmware updates for Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus, and Galaxy A8 should be available via Over-the-Air or OTA process. Since it is an OTA update being released in phases, it may take a bit longer for other units to receive the firmware. However, an automatic notification should arrive once these new software updates are ready.
Manually checking the availability of these firmware updates can be done by heading to the smartphone’s Settings menu. Go to About Device, choose Software Updates and then tap Check for Software Updates for the system to start searching for any firmware available. Simply follow the on-screen prompts to advance with the download and installation process.
A stable Wi-Fi connection or mobile data network is required to download the update files. Make sure as well that there is enough memory space left in the smartphone to avoid installation problems. Moreover, the Samsung devices need to have a fully charged battery, or at least 80 percent remaining power for the update to push through.
