The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini was officially announced by the South Korean smartphone manufacturer on Thursday morning. The mid-range device is slightly smaller than the Galaxy S III and features a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display alongside a mid-range processor and other popular smartphone offerings.
The Galaxy S III Mini features a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and runs on the Google Android Jelly Bean OS with TouchWiz capabilities.
Also featured on the mid-range smartphone is S Voice, Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Siri voice-assistant. S Voice uses Google now for voice search and vocal commands, a feature that is also available for other software featured on the phone.
Users will also enjoy the use of NFC data transfers between S Beam-enabled devices, eye-tracking Smart Stay software, and auto calling when a contact is pulled up and the phone is raised to the users ear.
While listed as a “mid-range” device, the phone does offer an 8-megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and a front-facing camera for video conferencing and self-portrait taking at a lower output.
The Galaxy S III Mini also offers Wi-Fi 802.11n, GPS and GLONASS, and Bluetooth 4.0. With a slimmer package, Samsung has reduced the battery from 2,100 mAh on the original device to 1,500 mAh on the Galaxy S III Mini.
Samsung has not yet released pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini or an official release date.
