Popular URL shortening tool Bit.ly is now allowing users to express their feelings about shared linked.
On Wednesday, the company announced the Bit.ly for Feelings platform.
The new bookmarklet offers a specific set of customized URL shorteners which can be used to share links with expression. If a user really loves an article, for example, they can use the luvit.me shortener. Conversely, if they oppose the article, there is the oppos.es shortener.
The new Bit.ly for Feelings platform was announced on Twitter by chief Bit.ly scientist Hilary Mason. According to the Twitter message, “sometimes you have STRONG FEELINGS about things you share.”
Not only is Bit.ly for Feelings a great way for users to express their opinions, it could also provide publishers with valuable feedback about the nature of their content. On some pages, we see “like it, love it, hate it” voting, but an anonymous system based on links could provide more truthful reporting of sentiment.
Bit.ly’s new CEO recently said the company would focus its efforts on paid options for publishers. The hope is that Bit.ly can become a more robust data collection service that allows for publisher information discovery.
Bit.ly services millions of outgoing links on a daily basis, and, with all of those links the information, that may be obtained could be invaluable to publishers.
Will you be using Bit.ly for Feelings to express your feelings about the outgoing links you use on a daily basis?
