During this time, the boy’s condition worsened, and he also missed a crucial medical appointment given his condition. He was not in good shape. The boy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 3. It is an aggressive but curable blood cancer, so treatment is important for him.
At the detention center, his condition was deteriorating as he bruised more easily. His body had blue and black marks and bone pain during the detention. There was a massive public outrage over their arrest and detention.

According to Elora Mukherjee, the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic director, they were putting a reply to the government when they found out about the release. They were going to add more details on how they were wrongfully held. However, ICE released the family, and a court order was not needed.
The family was transferred to a shelter in South Texas from the detention center to reunite with the rest of the family members. The public outrage over their wrongful detention played a role in them getting released. This shows the power the public still holds in such cases. A civil rights lawyer, Kate Gibson posted on FB how people can fight against the harmful un-American policies.
She discussed how these courthouse arrests are disregarded for people who seek lawful help. Moreover, it’s a disregard towards the constitution and the protection it should provide to the people. Many people won’t even seek help considering such wrongful detentions, leaving them helpless. Upon being asked if ICE will deport the family, DHS has not been responsive.

The family was arrested on May 29th after their asylum hearing in LA. They had come to the US legally after getting death threats in Honduras. The family arrived using the CBP One app, which is not closed.
While seeking asylum, the mom was asked to bring the kids to the court, and they were arrested in the hallway when they were leaving. It scared the kids and the mother while they voluntarily went there for asylum. According to the news, the boy missed his cancer treatment, but DHS dismissed it as fake news.
Like always, they have claimed that health and importance are a priority to them. There have been nine deaths in ICE detention, so many people don’t believe their stance on safety. Recently, a man complaining of chest pain died at the detention center.
