10-year-old Naomi Kutin, who stands at 4-foot-8 and weighs just under 97 pounds, has just set a new weightlifting record. The New Jersey native set a new world record for the 97-pound division raw squat event by lifting 215 pounds at the RAW Unity weightlifting championships in Texas.
Kutin’s record setting lift smashed the old record (which was held by a 44-year-old woman from Europe) by six pounds.
Kutin said that she got into the sport because she wanted to break a world record. And now, at the age of 10, she has.
Kutin said:
“When I was younger, my friends would be doing a lot of things that I couldn’t do, and I wanted to do something extraordinary… I wanted to break a record of some sort and I just really wanted to get this record.”
Kutin told the Daily Mail that her schoolmates didn’t believe her when she told them that she was a world record holder. Luckily, Kutin had the medal for proof.
Kutin said:
“A lot of my friends and all of my teachers didn’t believe me when I said I had broken the world record. It was only when I brought in my medal and certificate that they did. Everyone thought it was really cool. It’s great being stronger than everyone I know. I’m always beating the boys in sports at school.’
A video of Kutin’s record setting lift hasn’t been made available yet but here’s a video of Kutin squating 187 pounds from last year.
Are you impressed? Embarrassed that a little girl is stronger than you?
