Fans of the uber-expensive to produce TV series Terra Nova will be disappointed to hear that Netflix and Fox’s 20th Television were “unable to come to terms” on an agreement that would take the failed TV series to the online video rental service.

The Steven Spielberg produced Terra Nova was a high-price experience that failed to gain an audience despite a hyped-up two-hour premiere and full run first season.

In order to secure the show Netflix would also have needed to get actors Jason O’Mara and Stephen Lang out of their options with Fox. The video streaming service would also have had to hope that actress Allison Miller could come back to the show, a move that would have been determined based on the success of the actresses new comedy pilot.

Netflix has shifted much of its recent attention to the original content sector, acquiring Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove and the David Fincer, Kevin Spacey helped project House Of Cards.

At this time Netflix is in desperate need for new content after the network lost its main partner in Starz while traditional TV networks have largely worked to shelter their traditional sitcoms and other shows from over exposure brought about by Netflix.

In the meantime some studios including Disney and Sony are pushing for Netflix tiered plans similar to programs available for premium cable providers. While most studios still allow Netflix to receive their movies customers typically must wait a minimum of 28 days before they can rent movies via the Network service.
