Are you ready for a female superhero movie? According to Natalie Portman, Marvel is currently working on a new film that will have a female lead.
Portman, who plays Jane Austen in the new movie Thor: The Dark World, didn’t spill any big secrets about the new movie. She did say, however, that Marvel is working on a new superhero movie with a “central female character.”
The actress believes that Marvel has done a great job with its female characters in the past. Movies like Iron Man and the Avengers have featured strong female characters, but those characters have not been at the center of the action. Pepper Potts in Iron Man and Black Widow in The Avengers had little screen time compared to the male counterparts.
Portman said that she is excited to see a new Marvel movie with a lead female character.
Portman said: “There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming — I have heard is coming — and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters … But they do definitely have strong female characters in them and I think it’s a testament to the people who run Marvel, their respect, their just normal human respect for women, the way they want to characterize them; you can tell when men talk to you, as just a person or as a ‘woman.’”
The actress didn’t say if she would be involved in the new movie, and she didn’t saw what female superhero will end up in the new Marvel movie. Still, many people are hoping that Portman will take the role herself.
