MTV host, BMX athlete TJ Lavin in coma after Dew Tour accident

TJ Lavin, the Real World/Road Rules Challenge host and BMX star is in a medically induced coma in critical condition after an incident in Las Vegas last night at the Dew Tour Championships.

ESPN describes the accident:

Lavin was attempting a nac nac combination over the second set of the dirt course, and failed to get his feet back on the pedals upon landing. He was thrown from the bike and knocked unconscious.

Lavin suffered injuries to his right wrist and ribs during the incident, and doctors initiated the coma to relieve brain swelling resulting from the accident when he was admitted to the trauma center at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. 33-year-old Lavin has been hosting the MTV show for about ten seasons, and has been involved with X Games for the better part of the past two decades, earning his first silver medal in 1996.

Video of the accident has been pulled from YouTube, and no further information about Lavin’s condition or prognosis has been disclosed.
