‘Wasteland 2’ Release Date Pushed Back

The release date for Wasteland 2 has been pushed back.

Wasteland 2 is an RPG created with crowd-funding. Developer InXile says the game is being expanded to hit a broader scope and the team behind it is running about six weeks behind schedule. They had been hoping for an October release date, but like most ambitious plans, the goal cannot realistically be met.

If more developers used InXile’s mentality for game development, we would see a lot less rushed games and post-release game fixes. The October goal is still in mind, as the developer is planning to give its Beta to those who funded it by then. Wasteland 2 could be that RPG you want to look into if its developer is that concerned about getting it right.

InXile founder Brian Fargo told the game’s backers that Wasteland 2 may well be the largest RPG he has worked on to date, and it’s quite a struggle trying to achieve the release goal, even with help of an increased budget.

The goal required to develop Wasteland 2 had been exceeded by two million dollars, and as a result, inXile is attempting to put every dollar to use in making the game. The current RPG in development is taking so much extra time that their next project, Torment: Tides Of Numera, was delayed before crowd-funding had even ended.

The Beta that inXile is giving out to backers who paid enough will be used to generate further work on the game as needed to ensure Wasteland 2 is everything they want it to be. The best thing about crowd-funding, they said, is that there is no pressure from retailers and publishers to ship it before it’s ready, hence why inXile was pushing for an October release date, but is willing to put more time into it before it ships.

RPG fans could be in for a treat when Wasteland 2 arrives. Little is known of what the game is about, though a screenshot indicates that it is set in a modern Old West scenario.
