Lennon And Maisy Cover ‘Ho Hey’ On ‘Nashville’ [Video]

There isn’t much in life that seems the same kind of joyful as when sister duo Lennon and Maisy sing a song together. They sing with that kind of perfect sister harmony that is somehow tighter than harmonies sung by non-siblings.

Lennon and Maisy Stella play Maddie and Daphne Conrad on the ABC show, Nashville and last night was the second time they got to sing on the show.

Wednesday night’s episode was more about Maddie and Daphne than any episode so far.

In the episode, Maddie tell her mother Rayna James that she’s decided that she wants to sing professionally because it’s what she loves. Rayna is a famous country singer who’s star is starting to fade a little. She knows fame isn’t all applause and money, and is very much against the idea of her oldest daughter getting involved in show business before having a chance to grow up as a normal kid.

A friend of Rayna tells her she’s being too hard on Maddie, and reminds Rayna that her mother delayed her pursuit of a singing career too. Rayna let go of some of her protectiveness and invited her girls to take the stage for a sound check.

Maddie and Daphne covered “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers, and it really was all kinds of magic. The characters gathered around the stage weren’t just pretending to be amazed at Lennon and Maisy’s talent. The actors reactions came across as entirely genuine.

My wish for the show is that producers and writers take advantage of that amazing joy thing that happens when people hear Lennon and Maisy sing a duet. I want the show to become as much about Maddie and Daphne launching their music careers as it is about Rayna James and Juliette Barnes maintaining theirs.
