Former Presidential Candidate Jon Huntsman Says ‘GOP Has No Soul’
Former Utah Governor and 2012 presidential contender Jon Huntsman had some rather sour words for his party in a recent interview, criticizing their obstructionist stances and criticizing them of being “devoid of a soul.”
In the interview, published Sunday in the Daily Telegraph, Huntsman criticized the GOP for having no central vision or platform and keeping Congress in a holding pattern until they figure one out.
“The party right now is a holding company that’s devoid of a soul and it will be filled up with ideas over time and leaders will take their proper place,” he said. “We can’t be known as a party that’s fear-based and doesn’t believe in math,” he added. “In the end it will come down to a party that believes in opportunity for all our people, economic competitiveness and a strong dose of libertarianism.”
He also criticized the GOP in a recent interview with The Huffington Post.
“In my party, compromise cannot be seen as analogous to treason, which it has been recently,” he said.
Huntsman dropped out of the Republican race for president after coming in third in the New Hampshire primary. He was criticized by some on the right as being a “RINO” (Republican-In-Name-Only) but was considered by Obama aides to be a genuine threat to the incumbent president.
So will Huntsman run again in 2016?
“Life is full of serendipity. This is a total BS way of answering it, but I never would have guessed I’d be a governor. I never would have guessed I’d go to China as ambassador. I never would have guessed I’d run for president,” he remarked.

Who?
Jan 1, 2013
Finally someone in the Republican Party gets it.
Jan 1, 2013
Nonsense it is the Democrats who refuse to stop excessive spending. That incompetent Harry Reid has not passed a budget in four years. Those idiots are bankrupting our country. Lack of taxes is not the problem. It is a requirement according to the Constitution that congress have an approved budget. The Republican House has sent budgets every year and that idiot Harry Reid pockets it and will not allow the Senate to even vote on it. Somebody needs to put the brakes on. Most people don't even understand what a 16 Trillion debt is. That includes the fourth branch of Government.
the press. If you took our national debt of 16 Trillion and converted to miles it would take light 2.75 years to reach that distance. This spending is leading to hyper inflation and will turn our country into a third world country. Those are the facts I defy anyone to challenge them. One way we can solve part of our problem is to require the GSA to cut 500 Billion Dollars of waste for 2013.
Jan 1, 2013
I know you won't believe this so check Forbes magazine(Steve Forbes is very pro GOP) that Obamas'debt growth is smaller than GWs'
Jan 1, 2013
One GOP member not in denial.
Jan 1, 2013
The GOP is not obstructionist, it is trying to get the jackasses on the left to STOP spending on BS programs and get teh entitlement mentality under control. Why should we continue to give money to people who have been on welfare for 2 or 3 generations? Isn't it obvious that they have no intention on ever getting a job? Why should we continue to send foreign aid to nations that continually vote against us in the UN and divert the money into their own coffers to enrich the politically connected, just like the 'steal-from-us" packages did here in the US? The only things this government should be funding is the military, transportation and infrastructure and Social Security ONLY for those who have CONTRIBUTED to it!
Jan 1, 2013
Finally someone has the guts to stand up and tell!
Jan 1, 2013
He was, by far, the best Republican candidate in the 2012 field. If he wants to run for president, he's going to have top become a Democrat. There's not going to be room for an experienced, practical, intelligent, bipartisan nominee in the Republican party in the foreseeable future. He'll have to make his own serendipity.
Jan 1, 2013
The soul was cut out of the last budget.
Jan 1, 2013
The RINO's are linning up to slam the party and think it will help them when it comes to election time becuse the comunist press will pay attention to them. WAKE UP AMERICA! Don't judge politicians by their party affiliation, but by the stance they take, and don't take the presses word for were they stand, Hunsman is no more Libertarian than Obama. When are we going to have people that speak the truth in the press at least! Cuts mean you are spending less this year than last year not that the increase was cut, and raising taxes cuts revenue so when isanyone going to ask Obama how he is going to pay for his tax hike? Untill the pres asks real questions and people look at people like Bill Clinton after his convention speach and say were not talking simple arithmatic were talking economics, which is dynamic not static, so when you do anything to it, like raise taxes, people change how they do things, like spend less because they have less, so revnue to the government goes down, and because they keep spending more the deficit goes up, and WE THE PEOPLE, need to stop them because we are supposed to be in charge not the politicians and not the press!
Jan 1, 2013
REPUBLICANS ARE JUST A BUNCH OF GREEDY , SELF SERVING PEOPLE AND THE DEMOCRATS ARE A BUNCH OF CANDY ASSES. THINGS WILL BE NO BETTER AS LONG AS WE HAVE THE TYPE OF SYSTEM WE HAVE NOW. ITS NOT WORKING AND WILL NEVER CHANGE AS LONG AS THE PUBLIC PUTS UP WITH IT. SENIORITY IS A GOOD THING IN MOST CASES BUT IN OUR PRESENT POLITICAL SYSTEM THEY USE IT TO FAVOR THEMNSELVES. THE ABNSWER, TERM LIMITS.

Funny how yahoo (headed by Obama fundraiser Marissa Meyer) chooses to feature a comment from Obama appointee Huntsman (who's not really a Republican). Great way for yahoo "news" to start the new year.
Jan 1, 2013
Kuntsman is just sour grapes, this guy is a complete idiot compaRe the GOP to communist China.
It"s the democratic party that wants to strip you of your rights one by one.
He SAYs the GOP can't do math, Add up the cost food stamps, welfare and government housing, throw in the cost oF Obama phones and every other god damn government giveaway to the lazy illiterate masse.
Eliminate all these entitlements along with the medicare and medicaid we give the illegal aliens and teenage girls who don't know how to keep their legs closed.
Pay off the lazy the ignorant and illiterate that is the liberal way.
Shit bird knows he is not well-liked by congress so he tried to buy them off with a raise which thank goodness they are refusing.
If KUNTSMAN doesN't like GOP let him switch parties.
Jan 1, 2013
this helps illustrates why Hunstman had such a stunningly disasterous run for the Presidency.

Just shut up with your right wing crap. I am personally sick of the two party system as they BOTH SUC K big time. It has become "US" VS "THEM" and I don't feel I am either one. So just shut up with your BS.
Jan 1, 2013
As usual the Democrats never want to take the blame for our current situation. Obama is still blaming Bush for our present troubles. FACT: Democrats have always stood for tax and spend. However, the Republicans also have no backbone when it comes to cuts either. THIS GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STOP SPENDING MONEY THEY DOn't HAVE! Sorry to inform all of you but every program the government supports has to be cut and significantly. Spending is where it begins. In addition, Obamacare will bankrupt what is left of our already fragile economy. So when the president said in the debates only those making $250,000 will pay higher taxes, he was flat out lying. Most of the country believed him. Especially the inner city people. We will all get hit with a tax increase. Now, here we are. How is it working for you now?
Jan 1, 2013
I'm not giving to praise democratswho nevr seem to find a spending bill they don't like but the GOP is so stupid. there refusal to belive science is just down right scary. it like they born 700 years ago and refuse to beilve in science becaue the bible written 3000 years ago says so.
Jan 1, 2013
notto mentionthat 30% ofthe debt goesto bush tax cuts that obama oposed
Jan 1, 2013
Sorry Bill, I don't care where you got your information. Just check the National Debt ticker. Has it slowed down or stopped at any time? NO!
Jan 1, 2013
Fun with numbers…the Forbes magazine refers to % of growth in spending over the previous year(s). I suggest you do some homework…look the national debt when GW took office vs when he left 8 years later, then compare that to the debt since O has been in office for 4 years. Also, GW administration worked with congress to pass budgets every year (Last two years were democrat controlled congress). O has not passed a single budget since being in office and his party leaders won't even put one to a vote for fear the public will see what they are approving. BTW, now that O doesn't face re-election, sit bcak and watch the spending spree he champions going forward.
Jan 1, 2013
Nothing more than another Democrat endorsing the stealing of ones hard earned capital to give to a lazy person. Move along folks, this is business as usual.
Jan 1, 2013
@robert. you and your fellow excessive spending flag wavers are biased toward your interpretation of the cause of the debt. the dem's did not start this mess, your party did. the steps taken to bring the run-away train to a stop were what created the debt. the rep's still want to spend billions and billions supporting the military/industrial complex, which in turn creates a debt that is un-discussed, the burying, mending, rehabilitating, life long care for the veterans the military uses as a test bed for their new weapons. the last estimate i read was 600-900 billion per year. for veterans care alone. this is a republican inspired dept. during the primaries, it was war with iran, war with syira, war with the world. your party had no problem spending trillions in war and the death and mutilation of thousands of our young.
Jan 1, 2013
herbert, You have bought into the GOP fear tactic jargon.GW Bush DID spend more, so how long is your memory? Remember the idiot who couldn't speak without embarrasing the American people and himself, along with putting us in the worst financial ruin since WWII??Wake up and smell your coffee–Huntsman is right–no soul, and all selfishness….but you'll see them on the front pew every Sunday morning?????Makes no sense.
Jan 1, 2013
Bill Gray and that makes you an idiot. You must be on the welfare, food stamp and free everything Obama has to offer. Get real Idiot.
Jan 1, 2013
Like you wscrap1 he's an idiot just like spending Oboma.
Jan 1, 2013
When your ankle chain gets in the way of adjusting your snuggy so you can gobble down your 400 calorie ration of free government cheese, remember the compassion of the Dems!
Jan 1, 2013
Yes, Dems are tax and spend, where Cons are spend and dont tax…So which way is best for paying down debt??
Jan 1, 2013
When George Bush destroyed the surplus, "deficits didn't matter', but when Dems take control, this is the most important issue. I think the biggest problem is that nearly ALL of the economic advances of the last few decades have gone to the top 2% and above. Reaganomics and Supply Side Economics have worked great for those few, but have decimated the middle class. Republican policies have only benefited the rich. and, that's fact!!!!!
Jan 1, 2013
No, this illustrates why a REASONABLE Republican couldn't survive the craziness and hatefulness in the current Republican Party. Wake up and get off your hateful high horse…and if you're a woman, you BETTER thank your lucky stars that someone was around to protect your personal liberties!!
Jan 1, 2013
The Republicans have not lost their soul they are found at the bottom of their shoes where they are strategically placed to help walk on all others…..
Jan 1, 2013
Remember Debbie Idiot Garcia, Bush was in for 8 years, your Idiot obama hasn't reach that milestone yet.
Jan 1, 2013
Obama's former ambassador to the Chi-Coms speaks. And the GOP should care why?
Jan 1, 2013
He isn't a real Republican , that is why he lost.
Jan 1, 2013
We will ruffdiamond710 when you stop being an idiot like all the other democrats.
Jan 1, 2013
Funny how the article talks about Republican denial, and you would choose to say that Huntsman, a Republican candidate for president this last go round, is not a Republican. It is perhaps the best illustration of the denial of reality that the article refers to, that can be provided. I want a viable GOP with a vision, because the US works with the system of checks and balance. The current obstructionist ninnies whose main goal seems to be protecting corporations and the very rich, are an embarrassment.

Lynn Glover -Keep watching Faux "news" for all your educational needs. From N. Carolina, what a surprise.
Jan 1, 2013
What's really funny, the liberal Washington Post debunks the myth that Obama hasn't been on a spending spree, in fact, it directly makes that assertion using facts and logic showing that Obama has been one of the worst offenders as far as spending goes.

Mick, he doesn't espouse any Republican virtues, and point of fact, has been courting the Democrat party for awhile now. He is nothing more than Obama's lap dog.
Obstructionist is the term people use when they don't have facts on their side, it's a pity that you chose to use it, Micky.

Darn those Republicans adhering to the Constitution!!!
Jan 1, 2013
He makes some valid points. Compromise is not tolerated, especially by tea-partiers. The GOP is clearly anti-science and tolerates a lot of crazy talk by its leaders. Bobby Jindal said this too. I think the tone of the GOP message needs to change for them to win next time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/bobby-jindal-gop_n_2121511.html
Jan 1, 2013
You know when a person has to use insults to try to get their point across, like "idiot", they are usually projecting their own feelings of intellectual inferiority upon others. Lynn, you seem very fond of insults, but citing facts (instead of running people down) would be a lot more helpful in convincing others that you may or may not have a valid point.
Jan 1, 2013
hes not from the gop hes a liberal dem to bad he dosent get it..tax and spend sounds like a good idea.huh jon.where's your SOUL IN HELL WITH THE MURDER BABIE CROWD /REMOVE GOD FROM ALL OUR LIVES CROWD.
Jan 1, 2013
Clowns like this are proof the GOP should be replaced by The Tea Party!
Jan 1, 2013
I read the comments below. What is amazing at how many people have no clue! Huntsman is a RINO, that's why he did not win for the President. The problem is America, is how many people want to live on the government. We have the greatest percentage of People receiving money from the government in either: salary, health care, food stamps, social security, medicare, medcaid, other payments than ever before. Its over 55% now! Democracy depends on people working and contributing and not just receiving. Unforunately, too many think otherwise now and vote for Liberals and people like Obama. However, the fact is we can no longer rely on credit card for this money, we are starting to actually make payments on the credit card. This money is going to come from YOU the Middle Class! Sadly, only teaparty member actually realize this now!
Jan 1, 2013
Yes, thats Obama!
Jan 1, 2013
There are none so blind as those who will not see. One of the main reasons Asian nations are surging ahead is that they are 'stealing hard earned capital' from workers in order to put it toward their countries infrastructure and education for their "lazy" citizens, things we in the US have had cut massively since the loss of a large amount of revenue from the Bush era tax cuts for the wealthy. Some would say it's short cited and diminishes our future as a nation, but you've got it all figured out.
Jan 1, 2013
Robert, keep doing what your doing, continue to think the way you're thinking, and continue to do what your GOP people do. As Phil would say, " How's that working for you?" Your own party lost and will continue to lose until your people grow a heart, find compassion, use your intellect as opposed to saying things out of your anger, and your people begin to think outside the box, and put a cease to your angry, mean spirited rhetoric.
Jan 1, 2013
ruffdiamond710 the thieves are the libeturds.. greed is thy name.. they think ANYONE that has success should be punished and pay for free loaders…they use BS arguments about roads and infrastructure, like the wealthy get more benefit which is totally BS… the wealthy likely do not use nearly the "Roads" or "govt" that the moochers do..yet libturds expect them to pay for it…the GOP in congress are fighting for the constitution and FAIRNESS… not unfairly blaming one sector(The wealthy) cause they want a piece of their(the wealthy's) pie and are willing to thieve it any way they can
Jan 1, 2013
Is he just discovering that the Rep. party has no soul? I discovered that years ago after having been a republican for a long time. The republicans will have to make many changes for me to support them again. For now, however, I'm a Democrat.
Jan 1, 2013
Debbie Smith Garcia, is too bad you are full of Liberal BS. Bush spent too much does that mean Obama has to quadruple that amount. Bush got far better grades that Biden (idiot). Obama embarrashed me everyday he speaks his crazy words. Funndy lots of problems in Housing were started with Donkeys and you say nothing about them. It makes no sense Obama policies and you need to wake UP, but he is going to have the mother of all battles to continue his spending
Jan 1, 2013
Right, thats why the Republicans want to continue the tax cuts for the rich that never trickle down to the middle class at all cost to the recovery of the nation. The GOP sucks the rich mans _&)0^(&

Sour grapes.
Jan 1, 2013
Sour grapes, dude.

mickkjhc nice one, except your bias shows since you didn't call out the Debbie for HER use of idiot
Debbie also spewed out a bunch of false facts.. which you also seemed to ignore…
Jan 1, 2013
Debbie Smith Garcia you are just all LIBERALS. LIe through your teeth! Republicans love Women, but Liberals like to kill babies and make Women totally dependent on the government. Republicans want them to get good jobs and Liberals like them to have food stamps.
Jan 1, 2013
Phil Gramm REP. was the one who dismantled the Glassman Steagle Act that caused the housing crisis by deregulation for the banks to go wild. Look it up. Hint: You won't find it on Faux news. Facts and Faux don't mix well.

Eventually my fellow party members will wake up to the fact that you can't follow the drum beat of entertainment talking heads like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, who want to convince all their viewers that democrats are some evil communists that want to destroy the country, and not just fellow citizens that differ in their approach to the problems that our country faces. Eventually my party will have a candidate that appeals to more then just the farthest right 10% of the party, who refuse to even meet with their democratic countrymen. Eventually my party will have a spirit of openness and inclusiveness instead of the belief that the only people we want to come to the voting booth are white suburban people. Eventually we will have a primary election that doesn't attack a person as a subversive communist just for the fact that they were the ambassador to China and they adopted a Chinese child. Eventually, Eventually eventually…..
Jan 1, 2013
the biggest hit to the budget is ENTITLEMENTS..not the wealthy.. you could tax them 100% and not pay for the govt for 1 year…
the greed is on the LEFT, those who try to justify stealing from the wealthy by making up ridiculous arguments that hold no merrit
Jan 1, 2013
I love how micky doesn't address any actual issue, but just wants to scream that he's not as wealthy as the the wealthy are. Sorry, socialism and redistribution of wealth are failed models on how to run a country.
Come back and have a discussion when you're ready to bring logic and fact into it, not supposition, opinion, and failed theory.
Jan 1, 2013
Funny how so many hate-filled Republicans posting here are proving Huntsman's point for him.
Jan 1, 2013
Reps like to send your children to die in their wars and when they come home give them nothing. If they loved women they would pass laws that help them, not the opposite. Actions speak louder than your words. Reps only care about the rich, which when speaking of elected officials are themselves.

In my opinion, a much better candidate that Mitt Romney. It is so sad that the Republican Party's right wing did not give this man more room to present his views. I guess the Republican primaries are aimed at a very small slice of the party. Such a shame…..

The Democrats have aborted every soul they could find for the past 40 years. Maybe the GOP ran into a Democrat on the way to the White House and had its soul aborted.

The answer to our debt problem is simple, spend less than you take in. We need to do whatever it takes to get our finances in order. Cut all spending, especially foreign aid and useless programs like the mating habits of Australian mammals (I'm just giving a made up example). Ending the wars in the Middle East would be helpful too. I would not mind paying more taxes if I knew that the deficits, annual and total, were being reduced. Is it too much to expect that our leaders act in a responsible manner when it comes to financing our government? So, my message to our leaders is simple. If you don't have the money, don't spend it.
Jan 1, 2013
He would have been a much better POTUS candidate than Mittens.
Jan 1, 2013
Huntsmans will likely be run out of the GOP on a rail at some point. The radical nilists that are running wild in the GOP these days will, I am sure, see him as lacking sufficient zeal in their efforts to create a autocratic plutocracy….purity of their chosen goal is the only measure they accept these days….so Huntsman is toast….
Jan 1, 2013
To actually get on the ballot for national office you have to sell your soul. It is the only way one can raise the obscene amounts of money necessary to pull it off! Obscene amounts of money do not come without strings! Obscene amounts of money do not come from the average American citizen.
Jan 1, 2013
Aborting the soul of America, one sovereign person at a time. The soul of America is inscribed in our founding principles, the foundation of the only country on the face of the earth to guarantee freedom for each and every sovereign person from conception to eternity. Read the Declaration of Independence and our Constitutions's Preamble…"to secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity" all future generations. Read the Eighth and Ninth Amendment and apply them to the HHS Mandate. Talking about souls. Only our Creator endows our souls with unalienable rights. Only our Creator creates souls. not the government. The government is taking away all that it has given us and the sovereignty that God has endowed to the sovereign person…and all for the price of tribute.
Jan 1, 2013
Lynn Glover you do realize it is not Obama's spending. All spending bills must make it through the house and senate.

Let us hope that Huntsman runs for President again and so how makes it. It may take a third party run as the religious right will never tolerate a candidate who doesn't kowtow to them.
Jan 1, 2013
your right. the democrates have our best interest at hart. the gop is bad , all bad, no good can come from the gop. all hail the democrates.
Jan 1, 2013
and this is such a newsworthy story, John who?
Jan 1, 2013
Adam Gale Right on. Obstructionist is also the nicest term the democrat party has come up with to describe those who have the temerity to disagree with them – you know, people capable of independent thought.
Jan 1, 2013
Huntsman is a RHINO. He should be banned from The Party and sent to some socialist country where he can get a head examination paid for by THEIR tax payers.
Jan 1, 2013
And how is their approach to the problems working?I keep forgetting its all Bush and the GOPs fault. My mistake.
Jan 1, 2013
We have a word for people like Huntsman. We call them losers (in the electoral sense) – if conservatives are ever going to get serious about winning elections, they have to stop worrying about whether their candidate is acceptable to liberals. Every time we put forth a "moderate" that democrats can stomach (see Romney, McCain, Dole, etc) that'll win over independents. We LOSE the election.
I assure you, no one on the Democrat side is ever worried if their candidate is "acceptable" to the conservative wing of America…

It is a very sad commentary of our country that even after the majority of voters chose to re-elect president Obama, there are those who still choose to dwell in spiteful denial! I have never seen such a colossal amount of sour grapes as those espoused by comments made by these republican voters.Get over it! Lets come together, lets work together, and make this the country it should be! I challenge you,(republicans and democrats) to work as one, yes, with differences, toward a common goal.
Jan 1, 2013
The National Debt was under 10 Trillion on January 19, 2009. George Bush increased the Debt by 4.8 Trillion in 8 years. Barack Obama increased the Debt by 6 Trillion in less than 4 years. Math does not lie so Forbes Magazine is wrong. I use the National Debt Clock which you can check earlier dates. I am very precise in my math also my profession is Software Engineering.

Pete Petro …then why does he keep passing the Bush tax cuts…they are now obamuslim tax cuts
Jan 1, 2013
The Gop has been controlled by the super rich since Reagan, I used to vote only Gop, not any more. What has the gop done to benefit this country? Tax cuts for the rich it will trickle down, 1000 points of light, contract with America, WMDs and the Iraq war for Bush and cheneys oil buddies. So much B.S. from the gop and it all benefits the Rich. Not the middle class.
Jan 1, 2013
Ron Paul was the only republican candidate with a soul… who did not cater to special interests, who did not advocate bailing out failed businesses, who wants to audit the Federal Reserve Bank, who wants our troops out of foreign conflicts TO PREVENT LOSS OF LIFE TO OUR TROOPS who should only be protecting our boarders, who wants to legalize drugs (ie not be our big brother), who wants TRUE equality… The man has a pure heart and soul and has never compromised his beliefs for greed or unfair policies. If more people had listened to him years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess we are in now. TRILLIONS IN DEBT… HANGING ON A FISCAL CLIFF…
Jan 1, 2013
"…he was considered to be a threat to the incumbent president"…because he is as left wing as obamuslim and would have given out more entitlements for votes than obamuslim!
Jan 1, 2013

Terry Wilson Just wondering if your contempt is limited to the wealthy and religious or if you're an equal opportunity bigotry?

He had no problem running for president as a Republican until he lost. He will be a good democrat. No class.

Herbert, Stop listening to Fox so-called-News. A recent study showed the average watcher has an IQ of 80! Not surprisingly, they "report" at that level. A survey found that they were less informed than people with NO news source!
Now to some VERIFIABLE facts. How much do you think we spend on foreign aid? (Hint it is far less than 1 percent of the federal budget.) Social Security is funded ENTIRELY by workers and employers. Not a DIME comes from other taxpayers. That is by law, as signed by Reagen. Tax revenues (as a percentage of GDP) are the lowest they have been in 60 years under Obama. Ever hear that from CONservative talkers? ….. I didn't think so. Our actual tax COLLECTIONS (don't be distraced by the rates – focus on actual collections, as that is all that matters) are amongst the lowest in the developed world.
Corporations arguably consume between 45 and 75 percent of our infrastructure costs, yet contribute less than 10 percent of the federal budget. If YOU like making up the difference, shut up and pay your taxes. If not, learn critical thinking – which virtually always leads to becoming a liberal (which is why teaching ritical thinking is being outlawed in some Texas schools) and ensure that taxes support the things that everyone uses.
A little thought problem: What sevices that YOU benefit from would you be willing to defund to reduce spending? Clean water? Clean air? Untainted food? A stable currency? A (mostly) fair court system? A (mostly) reliable electric grid? Remember you can only cut thinks that benefit you, as opposed to robbing others. i have yet to find a CONservative who was willing to give up a single thing that benefited THEM! They want all the services, they just don't want to pay for them.

When Democrats talk about accumulated debt they blame Bush and ignore his Democrat Congress
When Democrats talk about Obama debt then suddenly thy say it is Congress's Constitutional duty to pass a budget.

And more and more of the voters are finally realizing this. Bye-Bye, GOP in 2014!
Jan 1, 2013
Huntsman was the GOP's best choice but all the right wingers wanted a wacko like Perry or a soul less Trust Fund kid like Romney.
Jan 1, 2013
Hey, Lynn. You called Debbie Garcia an idiot because she pointed out the fact that Bush did indeed spend more,(although I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge that you did say Obama still had four years to go), does that mean that Bush was an idiot too.Oh yeah, I will say it for you, I must be an idiot too, for agreeing with Ms Garcia!
Jan 1, 2013
Just look at the comments on here by the right…exactly what he's talking about. Denial. One person in the entire party comes out and says what everybody has witnessed with their own eyes for the past 4 years and they immediately disown him. Wake up and look at what he's saying and maybe if you're lucky you can save your party which is now about to split.

Libertarianism has as a basic assumption that the invisible hand of self interest is essential for society to prosper. But the housing bubble and crash orchestrated by the banksters proves otherwise. Thanks to libertarians we had Thatcherism and that is where liar loans and derivatives and bets were invented or at least refinded from pre Great Depression days. Then they were exported from the UK financial system, the seed of all financial evil, to the US with the Commodities tures Modernization Act (Which allowed derivatives to run wild) and the Financial Services Modernization Act (the Repeal of Glass Steagall. This was all sanctioned by Basel 2, 1998-2000. It was a scam, a rip off of massive wealth from the middle class to the wealthiest financiers. Allan Greenspan, Clinton, Gramm, Geithner, and others were in on it.
The Republicans are hot for the repeal of the Volcker Rule and they want another housing bubble, another dose of libertarianism. And libertarians want speculation because in the old days, when libertarianism was formulated, we didn't have the kind of rampant cornering of markets (like the oil market) through speculation that we do have now.

Huntsman is wrong. The GOP does have a soul, but it is a very nasty, hate-filled, fear mongering, ignorant, greedy, ugly soul, and it will never, ever improve beyond that.

All of this is moot. The pending worldwide economic collapse means we spend more of less. There is no compromise to saving our kids futures. We either say no more or keep borrowing 46 cents of every dollar. This is immoral.

Jon Huntsman appears to be a confused individual since he pulled out of the presidential race after New Hampshire.

I'll give you Clinton, he – though coerced – went along with Gingrich and republicans, Obama won't accept anything short if an admission of guilt that it was tax cuts (not government spending) that lead to the financial disaster. Conservatives have disdain for Obama, because he's everything they're not, and rest assured, conservative opinion of Obama is the least of liberal concerns.

What an odd perspective. Both sides calculate whether they can win over some members of the other. It is only on the fringe that people think, and like, that there can be no appeal to the other side at all. The G.O.P. lost because it supported ineffective candidates who did not have much appeal, not because they were trying to please liberals, which clearly they were not.

If the Republican party continues to suck hind tit on every issue that comes along and denies the obvious voter demographics the only choice they have in the future is to cheat better, hire enough hitmen to cut down on defections or go extinct. Trying to actually be the voice of the people that voted for you seems to have slipped the collective mind of party leaders infavor of the patrons that paid for the deceptive and very negative adds. Bummer..
Jan 1, 2013
Any time any Republican acts to repair the GOP, he is called a traitor, or a "lap dog". Why can't Huntsman just be a Republican who is interested in fixing a problem? Why does there have to be a blind eye, no a sheep mentality to all the problems the GOP has had for the past 16 years? The Republican party has been falling apart, they don't put up a viable candidate, and they love to blame the Democrate for their own woes. What the GOP needs, is a level headed adult to lead the party out of it's slump. Stop whining, and make the country believe they really have our best interests in mind, and not their's.

The same was said of the Democratic Party after 2000 and 2004. The big problem is that the Republican establishment is too moderate and wants to appease folks that disagree instead of convincing them why their ideas are better. Plus the establishment does not like the conservative wing of the party even though it is the one wing that has had real successes. The establishment hated Reagan and did not want to nominate him in 1980. I consider Huntsman very much a moderate and far from a conservative, but he is a strong leader and does have a few good ideas.

Old Jon the "Rino" should go back and watch re-runs of himself during the debates, he would then (maybe) understand why he didn't have a chance, dry as dust & no personality,. This is the only way he can get some press time. He should convert & become a Democrat, there racks are full of has been's and never will be's.

They (the GOP) were going after independents, and liberals frankly with the socially ambiguous policies of Romney.
Obama's approval ratings amongst conservatives is poor and liberals don't much care. Obama is easily the furthest left president we've had since Johnson. But I don't think liberals are losing sleep over what conservatives think about Obama. The opposite is totally true on the right, the GOP establishment goes out of its way to please liberals – candidate after candidate is just one "moderate Republican" after another. Who is the "moderate democrat" the DNC is putting forth? It ain't Obama….
Right now, the GOP is being run by an establishment that has disdain for the likes of Ronald Reagan and the religious. They want their votes, but they want nothing to do with them.
The fiscal cliff is a great example. Its fine if you want to raise taxes, so long as raising them has some specific purpose beyond "the rich can afford it" – like, I dunno, balancing the budget? I'd be all for raising taxes if 1) The federal government had any credibility whatsoever when it came to controlling spending – there's little to no evidence of that – and 2.) If there was commensurate spending cuts to coincide with raising taxes. There's not.
The proposal on the table postpones any real cuts in spending, while only raises taxes on those making more than $400,000…. So we have a 41/1 ratio tax increases to spending cuts. This isn't serious and reeks of a government unwilling to make difficult decisions when faced with a real crisis…
Moderates and the GOP establishment will go along, pleasing liberals, but further alienating the GOP establishment from their conservative base…
I say go off the cliff. It's time the American people get taxed to pay for the federal government they voted for, both the Bush tax cuts expiring (for all tax payers) and the new Obama care taxes are both democrat initiatives, yet predictably, the table has somehow been turned to blame it all on Republicans….

Huntsman is not now or ever has been a conservative, he has always been progressive with false promises… so who give a flip about his opinion? Like me, it don't matter what I say, I am either a racist, or a evangelical christian. Huntsman is just looking for someone to listen, and it is the Huffington Post. real creditable

Look what Republican Gov Gary Johnson of New Mexico did, he ran for president as a Libertarian. We need Huntsman, Johnson and other like minded Republicans in Congress and the US SENATE. Fiscal Conservative and Social Libertarians. This is the true American.
Jan 1, 2013
we need Republicans who are people of honor, not people who sign a pledge to a lobbyist that goes against the best interests of this country….Republicans have the reputation of being good with the economy, but it has been a long time since it hasn't gone down the tubes while they were in power, then the dems have to fix it again…Eisenhower was the last to preside over a strong economy.
Jan 1, 2013
what amazes me is that the democrats can say for 10 years that the GOP has no soul because of the Bush tax cuts for the rich, then can say the GOP has no soul because they won't extend the "bush tax cuts for the rich" in 2012. And they get away with it. Incredible. But then I guess when you think how low information most Americans are its not incredible. For proof look at most of the other posts here.

Jan 2, 2013
Well, there is a stunning announcement…..
Jan 2, 2013
I backed Huntsman in the primary and I'd back him today – he is the only conservative who has any sense! All the others are phonies just trying to make a buck! Huckabee, Bush, Rubio, Santorum, Gingrich, Perry, Bachman, Palin, all phonies – John Huntsman is an American who wants to do what is right for this country!

The problem is the GOP is ran by the evangelical white men whom are only pro profit for them and people like them. They put social interests aside for personal gain. There is no such thing as a moderate republican, I've read many articles about 70s and 80s republicans renouncing the party. Any logical person knows that there are more minorities in the US than white people. Furthermore, more black people voted than white people this election. If you want to win an election, you need to speak to all demographics… Not just the one paying you.
