‘The OA’ Season 2: Release Date For Brad Pitt-Produced Netflix Series Rumored For 2018

The OA is a popular Netflix series starring Brit Marling and Emory Cohen with actor Brad Pitt as one of the executive producers. Season 1 was released on December 16, 2016, and was 10 episodes long. Many people stumbled upon the show after watching Stranger Things and ended up really enjoying the twisted plot.

The show is about a young girl named Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling) who has a near-death experience (NDE) as a child. That NDE actually shapes much of her life and plays a fairly big role in the overall storyline. Prairie goes missing for seven years, her adoptive family left searching for their daughter — and for answers.

She becomes the victim of some strange experiment in the basement of a “Hap” (Jason Isaacs), a doctor/scientist that studies NDEs.

Prairie and a few other people are kept in a glass ecosystem for an unknown length of time, but she is eventually able to escape. She then spends a great deal of time trying to get back to her friends who she believes are still stuck in Hap’s basement — but is it a reality, or is this a figment of Prairie’s imagination? The answers are not revealed in the season finale, which simply begs for a second season.

Of course, when the weekend binge of The OA ended, it left just about every viewer wondering when Season 2 would be released. And while there isn’t an exact date just yet, the rumors suggest that the next batch of episodes will be on Netflix in 2018, according to the Mirror. It is believed that the cast and crew have already started filming Season 2.

Back in February, Season 2 of The OA was confirmed. A teaser trailer was released, the content beyond mysterious. You can check it out below. You can hear Prairie calling out for “Homer” and the message, written in braille, means “survived.”

“Yes, we designed it that way. Whether it will happen or not, I think that’s up to you guys. All of you in the world. If people connect to it. I would like to see this story continue…Brit and I figured out the whole thing. The whole thing’s a riddle. There are a lot of clues. Very few people have really picked up on all the clues. Our sound engineer picked up on a major one that kind of blew my mind. I was like, ‘That is designed for only the closest, creepiest viewer to find,'” writer/producer Zal Batmanglij told Variety when asked if there would be a Season 2 of the show.

“I would think that’s one of the exciting things about where we leave the ending, is that in some ways, it resolves in a satisfying sense, especially with the boys, but it also leaves something open. It’s exciting to leave that gap between one season and another and see how people feel about it and what they’re thinking, and then to get to continue, to actually answer the questions. If we get to be so lucky as to get to another round, I would be so excited,” Brit Marling said.

Of course, Season 2 is now definitely happening.

If you haven’t done so already, you can watch Season 1 of The OA on Netflix. It’s a fairly quick binge that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will constantly be looking for clues and asking yourself questions about the plot — this is normal, and it’s exactly what Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij were going for when they wrote the script. Fans hope that Season 2 is just as twisted.
