MacGyver Movie Moves Forward With ‘Saw’ Director James Wan

MacGyver is heading to the big screen. The project is still in the early development stages but it looks like New Line has a director in mind for the new MacGyver Movie.
James Wan, who was behind the original Saw and Insidious, has reportedly been tapped to helm a new movie based on the classic 80s show. New Line has been impressed with Wan’s work and the company is also very excited about his latest movie, The Conjuring.
Variety reports that Wan’s successes have made him the new go-to guy at New Line. A contract hasn’t been signed yet but Wan has apparently been chosen to direct the new MacGyver movie.
An early draft of a script for the new movie, written by Jason Richman, is currently being revised by Brian and Mark Gunn. Details about the plot are not available and there’s no word if Richard Dean Anderson will reprise his role.
Anderson played MacGyver, a secret agent known for his ingenuity, on the hit show from 1985-1992. The show was so popular, and sometimes so outlandish, that MacGyver actually became a verb in modern slang.
According to Urban Dictionary, to MacGyver is to “use ingenuity to fix or remedy a problem using only the tools available at hand.” It can also refer to “someone who can jump-start a truck with a cactus.”
MacGruber, an SNL character that spoofed the TV show, got his own movie in 2010.
Do you want to see the new MacGyver movie?

That would be so cool Loved the tv series to see Richard dean Anderson be Mac Gyver would great I bet it sell big time at the movies.

MacGyver is one of my all time favorite tv shows back in the day. I still watch reruns on cable. I hope a movie will be made soon. I'm definitely down!

If it has RDA reprising the role, I am excited. If it doesn't, then it shouldn't be made. Just sayin.

Wow! A Macguyer movie where Macguyer will make improvised jigsaw traps where his victims get skinned alive by a paperclip and chewing gum.
Nov 13, 2012
RDA or bust.
Nov 13, 2012
let it be a movie where Murdoch (michael des barres) is finally killed. Bring back Jack Dalton (bruce mcgill) and nikki (elyssa davalos). unfortunately, Pete Thorton (Dana Elcar) passed away several years ago. that would be awesome.

isn't this about 20 years too late?
Nov 13, 2012
maybe if RDA comes back they can make it a backdoor pilot for a new series with a younger Macgyver and Old Macgyver can be the head of the organization he worked for.
Nov 13, 2012
wait, wait is the original dude gonna be playing him!?
Nov 13, 2012
at this point it doesn't really matter to me. they could get the guy that did MacGruber for all i care

If Richard Dean Anderson is not in it! just make the movie and give the character a different name! there is only MAC! and that's RDA!
there were two tv movies after the show ended back in the 90's.and also that credit card commercial film recently. all with RDA,

Nice I remember watching this with my dad when I was like 4 or 5 years old.
Nov 13, 2012
Can't possibly be worse than the "MacGruber" movie? Could it?
Nov 13, 2012
I love the acting of RDA, but he is so old now! Have you seen him recently? I thought he should have been in a wheel chair he looked so bad.
Nov 13, 2012
they'll probably give to the Mentalist's Simon Baker or James Van There Beek.
Nov 13, 2012
Magyver has a built in fan base who would love to see richard dean anderson continue the role to see where mac would be today though I'm betting they are going to redo it with a 35 year old actor.though lliam neeson and harrison ford have no prob with those roles even 60 + so never know. That macgruber movie was such an insult and never should have been more than a skit.
Nov 13, 2012
That would be awesome! There's quite a few of the other guest actors still around that could be brought back, too. If the story and directing don't respect the original series the movie will be total bust. The series had its flaws, but fans loved it and the characters for good reason.

Only if he has a mullet.
