‘Goblin’ Korean Drama Topples ‘Reply 1988’ Viewership Record — Gong Yoo And Kim Go Eun Celebrate In Thailand With Cast And Crew

Goblin has come to an end but its success will be remembered by the history books.

Koreaboo reports that the Korean drama has set a new viewership record for the last episode of the season. In fact, it toppled a previous record that had been established by Reply 1988 previously.

The final episode of Goblin, Episode 16, garnered an average viewer rating of 20.5 percent. At its peak, the viewer rating figure was closer to of 22.1 percent. As alluded to before, the previous record for the highest viewership rating for a cable drama episode was held by Reply 1988’s Episode 20, which had an average viewer rating of 19.6 percent, and peaked at 21.6 percent.

As Koreaboo notes, this is especially significant when you consider that cable dramas tend to do poorly in the ratings when you compare them to series that air on the big public Korean networks like KBS, MBC, and SBS.

These channels are freely available to the public, but cable channels are only accessed by their paid subscribers.

So, for a drama which is broadcast on cable to have viewership ratings that reach so high into the double digits, it’s definitely a huge success.

According to Koreaboo, just because Goblin over, it’s not about to completely disappear from fans’ lives just yet.

TVN will air a pair of special episodes taking you behind the scenes of the explosively popular drama. The episodes will be broadcast on February 3 and February 4, and will also feature cast interviews and blooper reels for Goblin fans to enjoy.

The International Business Times reports that a Goblin OST album will also be released with the soundtracks from episodes of the show.

The show’s intro song has been added to the album, as well as songs that were played during key scenes on the show. The album will include a narration by Gong Yoo and a lyric book.
