‘The Bachelorette’ Star Kaitlyn Bristowe Explains Why She Can’t Start Planning Her Wedding

Kaitlyn Bristowe won’t be getting married anytime soon, unless she hires a wedding planner, that is. The former Bachelorette star told Cosmopolitan that the idea of planning her wedding to fiancé Shawn Booth terrifies her, so she’s just avoiding it.

“I don’t even have a desire to start planning because I know once I do it’ll be even more overwhelming,” Kaitlyn told Cosmo of her wedding. “I just want someone to do it all for me and tell me what day to be there. I just can’t imagine planning right now.”

This is not the first time Kaitlyn Bristowe or her fiancé have admitted that they aren’t motivated to start planning their wedding. Earlier this year, Shawn told E! News that he and Kaitlyn are “just enjoying being engaged” and that they aren’t in any hurry to walk down the aisle. Bristowe’s fiancé even joked that while the couple considered eloping to Las Vegas, they decided against a quickie chapel wedding over fears that ABC could sue them because the network has first rights to their big day. Still, Shawn and Kaitlyn have no intention of succumbing to the pressure to tie the knot on the network’s timeline.

“We’re just so crazy busy and we’re enjoying being engaged,” Booth told E! “The more pressure, the more we’re like ‘Well, we’re not going to do it now!’ We’ll do it when the time is right.”

While a TV wedding could definitely still happen on ABC’s dime at some point, Kaitlyn Bristowe has seemingly distanced herself from The Bachelor franchise. In fact, in the Cosmopolitan interview, Bristowe even admitted that she hasn’t watched an episode of the ABC reality show since her own season wrapped. In addition, Kaitlyn said she has no intention of watching her runner-up, Nick Viall, look for reality TV love when his season debuts in January.

“Everyone who’s been on a show, you can’t watch it after because you know too much about like, behind the scenes,” Kaitlyn revealed. “You just know too much and it doesn’t feel that same. It’s not entertaining anymore. You actually feel pain for them.”

Kaitlyn even went so far as to describe her experience on the reality series as “traumatic.”

“It’s traumatic,” Bristowe said. “You can ask anyone who’s ever been on the show. If they’re honest, they’ll say that too. But we also found each other out of it, so we’re grateful to it as well.”

Earlier this year, Booth explained why he and Kaitlyn decided to take it slow after their whirlwind, made-for-TV romance.

“We only knew each other for ten weeks before I proposed,” he told People. “We’re both normal people and the most normal thing we can do is wait.”

In February, Bristowe revealed that she and her Bachelorette final pick had already moved in together and were simply enjoying being engaged. Bristowe also said that when they start to plan their wedding, they would let everyone know.

“We call ourselves the Boothstowes,” Kaitlyn said at the time. “But when I get married, I’m going to take his name. I’m not a traditional person, but when it comes to that, I like the idea of being traditional. I think it’s romantic.”

While Kaitlyn and Shawn are taking things slow and basking in their long (OK, long by Bachelor standards) engagement, the Season 11 star did reveal that the couple’s next step is to build a home together.

The new season of The Bachelor premieres Monday, January 2 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
