‘Dragon Ball Super’ Episode 67: The Zeno Button, The Omniverse Tournament, And Zamasu’s Last Throes

Dragon Ball Super has all but concluded the Future Trunks arc, and it has exceeded most fans’ expectations. With a fairly dark storyline, a very memorable villain, and a climactic battle that would surely be considered one of the most memorable in the franchise, the Future Trunks saga has once more become one of the highlights of a Dragon Ball anime. With the Future Trunks arc practically over, it appears like Episode 67 is set to herald the final act of Dragon Ball Super.

Episode 66 polarized longtime fans of the Dragon Ball franchise. While the appearance of Vegito was lauded by many due to the character’s overwhelming strength and confident nature, the retconned limitations of Potara fusions attracted a lot of critics. Apart from this, the sudden power boost that enabled Future Trunks to stand toe-to-toe with Merged Zamasu in the final scenes of the episode was also pointed out by many to be a huge plot hole, considering the power difference between the two characters.

Nevertheless, both critics and supporters of Episode 66 were unanimous that the battle sequences between Vegito and Merged Zamasu, as well as Future Trunks’ last stand against the villain, featured the finest animation in the series so far. With a killer score and spot-on visuals, Episode 66 was definitely a treat to the senses. As much as Episode 66 was satisfying, however, it seems like Episode 67 would provide its own set of surprises as well.

The brief preview for Dragon Ball Super Episode 67, titled “Fill Your Heart with New Hope!! Farewell, Trunks,” featured a number of very intriguing scenes, the most notable of which was the appearance of Zeno, the Omni-King, who is the most powerful being in the Dragon Ball franchise to date. The Omni-King has made a couple of notable appearances in the past, with the powerful god previously stating his wishes to host a massive tournament in the future. Considering that the Omni-King is the god of the Dragon Ball multiverse, the tournament that would be held would most likely feature the most powerful fighters from multiple universes.

Considering that the Omni-King was featured in the preview for Dragon Ball Super Episode 67, however, speculations are high there must be a reason behind his sudden appearance. While the specific reasons behind the God of Everything’s impending arrival in Episode 67 are unknown so far, numerous fans are speculating that his appearance would be in some way related to the special button that he previously gave Son Goku. The button, which was given to the Saiyan when Zeno asked to see the fighter personally, is capable of summoning the god at any time, in any place.

Speculations are abounding with regards to the reasons why Son Goku would call on the Omni-King, especially after Merged Zamasu has already been defeated. According to Gojiitaaf, one of the most reliable sources for Dragon Ball Super leaks, Zeno’s arrival would be the result of Son Goku’s request, after Zamasu’s spirit makes one last attempt to defile the world.

The sudden arrival of the Omni-King, especially at this point in the Future Trunks arc, has received polarizing reviews from fans of the series. On the one hand, many fans felt a bit disappointed since Zeno’s appearance meant that the heroes ended up dependent on a god to defeat the villain, despite all their efforts to defeat the corrupted kai in the previous episodes. On the other hand, however, numerous fans of the anime welcomed the entrance of the Omni-King, since it would most likely herald a very significant development in the anime – the beginning of yet another arc.

Rumors are high that Dragon Ball Super would air about 100 episodes during its run. With this in mind, and with the anime closing in on its 70th episode, it appears like DBS is set to enter its next and final saga. Considering the foreshadowing of a massive tournament featuring fighters from different Dragon Ball universes, as well as the sudden appearance of the Omni-King in Episode 67, the chances of the Omniverse Tournament being announced in the anime soon are very high. If speculations are right, Episode 67 would be the start of possibly the most epic tournament ever to be featured in the Dragon Ball franchise.

Dragon Ball Super, especially the Future Trunks arc, has met and exceeded the expectations of most longtime fans of the franchise. Though a number of plot holes and inconsistencies are present in the plot, the anime has nonetheless managed to tell a very compelling and engaging story. Over the course of its run, Dragon Ball Super has only gotten better, and Episode 67 seems set on ushering the series to its next, and possibly best arc yet.
