Bella Hadid, The Weeknd Split Amid 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Week

Well, that’s awkward. Bella Hadid and The Weeknd were going to bring major relationships goals when they were announced to join this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Bella is walking the runway for the first time this year while The Weeknd is slated to perform for the second time.

But, to the disappointment of everyone, Bella Hadid and The Weeknd have split amid the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Week festivities. The couple ended their relationship after a year and a half together. The on-and-off couple have decided to officially end their relationship. Sources told E! News that while The Weeknd and Hadid “are both still very much in love with each other they know they needed to officially break things off for a while.”

“This is not the end,” the source added. However, both Hadid and The Weeknd both “need to ‘do them’ for a while.”

The couple first split 11 months ago, only to reunite shortly after. TMZ even shared a rare photo of Hadid and The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, at a strip club together. Sources are telling the media that their busy schedules are to blame for this latest split.

“They still have a great deal of love and respect for each other and will remain friends, but it has been too hard to coordinate their schedules with him finishing and promoting his upcoming album,” an inside source close to the “Starboy” singer told Us Weekly. “They really tried to make it work.”

The R&B singer, 25, and the model, 20, were first linked together back in April 2015 when he asked her to be on the artwork for his album, Beauty Behind the Madness. Hadid also starred in his music video for “In The Night.”

“My motive was the literally work with her,” The Weeknd admitted in a previous interview with Rolling Stone.

The two first made their relationship official when they stepped out together at the 2016 Grammys. Sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the two started dating in May 2016.

“It was a big night for him,” Hadid later told Glamour magazine over the summer. “He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night. As a girlfriend, I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy.”

“I’m dating Abel,” Hadid then added. “I don’t see him as The Weeknd. I’m proud of The Weeknd and the music he makes, but I really love Abel.”

The two were most recently seen vacationing together in Tokyo back in October. They will next appear on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which will begin taping on Nov. 30 in Paris and then will air in December. As previously mentioned, The Weeknd will perform while Hadid is walking in the show. Then, The Weeknd will travel to promote his third album, Starboy, available on Nov. 25.

So, how is it going to work for them when they’re both starring in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show? A source told E! News that Hadid is still excited about being there.

“Bella was so excited that she’s walking in the Victoria’s Secret Show this year, and she knows it may be a bit strange having her ex perform. She will be OK, because she will have all her best friends there.”

Hadid has been surrounding herself with her model squad and “close friends” during this time. She wants to use her newly single status as a time to figure things out.

“She is really sad about this because The Weeknd is the love of her life,” the source added.

Neither Hadid nor The Weeknd have publicly commented about their split. Are you disappointed to hear that they have broken up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
