Samsung Galaxy S8 Set For MWC 2017 Launch, Rumored Specs Include Optical Fingerprint Recognition

Samsung says the Galaxy S8 will be released not earlier than the upcoming Mobile World Congress slated for February 2017 unlike several rumors suggested.

After the Galaxy Note 7 exploding fiasco, rumors about Samsung expediting the release of their next flagship device spread like wildfire.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Earlier Release Date Debunked

According to some, it may be the company’s only way of salvaging whatever is left of their reputation.

Unfortunately, the Korean company debunked such rumors and denied any plans of releasing the Galaxy S8 early, an unnamed high-ranking Samsung official told ET News.

“Currently we do not have any plans to release Galaxy S8 early. Even before we released Galaxy Note 7, we had a separate plan to announce Galaxy S8.”

According to the outlet’s insider source, fast tracking the release of the new Samsung flagship phone is highly unlikely to happen even if the company wanted to do it.

“Pushing release date forward all of sudden is something that is realistically impossible.”

Moreover, the company said that does not plan to sacrifice any chance of repeating the same mistake it did with the Note7 which is why they are taking all necessary security measures to ensure that they produce a device that would make consumers believe in them again.

Samsung is currently taking steps to ease the damage from the Galaxy Note 7 disaster in some other ways including the November release of the Blue Coral model of the Galaxy S7 Edge which will come in 32GB and 64GB RAM variants.

Rumored Samsung Galaxy S8 Specs

While it may not be as obvious, there is a reason to believe that the emergence of rumors and speculations about the Galaxy S8 was sparked by the demise of the Note 7.

In fact, rumors about the 2017 Samsung flagship phone include an offer for former Note 7 owners to get a Galaxy S8 for free.

Though these have yet to be confirmed by the Korean company, it looks like Samsung is stepping up its game in terms of the Galaxy S8’s specifications as speculations suggest that the device would be an all-screen smartphone sporting optical fingerprint recognition.

According to Sam Mobile, an outlet dedicated for Samsung devices, murmurs from China makes the Galaxy S8 as the mobile phone to feature the technology that surpasses the fingerprint scanner usually placed in the Home button.

Optical fingerprint recognition means that the scanner can be placed “on a glass plate, or in a smartphone’s case, on the glass display,” something that has never been done before per the outlet.

“We’ve not seen this implementation in any other smartphones yet so the Galaxy S8 is certainly going to be the first smartphone to feature optical fingerprint recognition, which is both more accurate and faster than ultrasonic fingerprint recognition.”

However, Sam Mobile also pointed out that it is not impossible for Samsung to pull this off with the Galaxy S8 since the device is still three months away from being released.

Rumors also reveal that the Galaxy S8 may have a 5.5-inch 4K Super AMOLED display that boasts 3840×2160 resolution and 506 ppi pixel density which first surfaced via China’s Twitter-like Sina Weibo.

Apparently, a leaker posted a spreadsheet over the Chinese microblogging platform that reveals the said display specification which is quite interesting since it matches the possibility of the addition of an optical fingerprint scanner: all-screen, no Home button.

Other rumored specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor or Exynos 8895 chip under the hood with the 10-nanometer chipset that is said to prolong battery life.

There are also those who believe that the device will have either 6GB or 8GB of RAM—or maybe even both as Samsung is known to release two variants of Galaxy smartphones.
