‘Jealousy Incarnate’ K-Drama: Jo Jung Suk And Gong Hyo Jin Kiss Scene Records Highest Viewership Rating For A Scene In The Series [Light Spoilers]

The Autumn season for weekly K-dramas has not been good for the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) when it comes to Korean viewership. Scarlet Heart: Ryeo, Our Gab Soon, and Second to Last Love are below double-digits with their viewership ratings. Fortunately for SBS, their fourth K-drama, Jealousy Incarnate, is garnering double-digit ratings since its fourth episode.

Also known as Don’t Dare to Dream, Jealousy Incarnate starring Gong Hyo Jin, Jo Jung Suk, and Go Kyung Pyo has many reasons why it is doing so well. Besides the stellar acting by both the main and supporting cast, the plot and direction really stand out. Pertaining to the plot, one of its points used earlier in the K-drama was Jung Suk’s character Lee Hwa Shin being diagnosed with breast cancer, a condition that has been on the rise among men as of late. As for the direction, the love lines are presented in a way that viewers are unable to discern who Hyo Jin’s character Pyo Na Ri will end up with.

Overall, Jealousy Incarnate is a very entertaining K-drama to view all-around and now it seems it has earned its highest viewership rating ever. Reports on viewership now show that the latest episode recorded the highest viewership for any episode of the series thus far. It is also the episode featuring a kiss scene between Gong Hyo Jin and Jo Jung Suk.

The episode featuring the climactic kiss scene between Gong Hyo Jin and Jo Jung Suk aired on Thursday, October 6, and is the 14th episode out of 24. [WARNING: Spoilers!] According to Soompi, Pyo Na Ri looks for Lee Hwa Shin after he faces disciplinary action for suddenly changing a helicopter route. When she finds him in the changing room, they suddenly share an intense kiss, one that would cause many bashful viewers to cover their face and turn away in embarrassment.

AGB Nielsen Korea recorded the moment at 15.7 percent in ratings, the highest for any scene in Jealousy Incarnate so far. As for the viewership ratings for the episode in general provided by both AGB Nielsen Korea and TNS Media Korea, the former reported 12.6 percent for the nation and 13.9 percent for the Seoul National Capital Area. As for the latter, it reported 11.8 percent for the nation and 14.1 percent for the Seoul National Capital Area. Episode 14 has earned the highest ratings for any Jealousy Incarnate episode for TNS Media Korea.

To be frank, it took some time for any kiss between Pyo Na ri and Lee Hwa Shin to happen, but just like it mentions earlier, the direction was done so well that it kept viewers on the edge of their seats on who would end up with whom. Ergo, the kiss scene that aired recently was an accumulation of all that has happened more so than just a quick way to get a ratings boost. Even a source from SBS stated that they wanted to present integrity in the kiss and not have it just because.

“We wanted to portray Hwa Shin’s confession and Na Ri’s gratitude for his help in a relatable way. With their kiss, the love triangle will be changed in a big way, but please tune in to see how the characters’ story develops.”

Now that Pyo Na Ri and Lee Hwa Shin have shared a passionate kiss, K-drama fans will look forward to this coming week to see how the love lines will develop from this point on. Jealousy Incarnate airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 p.m. KST on SBS. For those who do not have access to SBS, the series can be viewed for free, with ads, exclusively at DramaFever in North and South America. Starting with the third episode, the latest episodes will be exclusive to premium users up to one week. As for all other regions, Jealousy Incarnate can be viewed on Viki by its second title, Don’t Dare to Dream.
