Paulie Calafiore Sets The Record Straight on Jersey Girls, Says Romance In The ‘Big Brother’ House Is ‘Not Realistic’

Paulie Calafiore is no longer in the Big Brother house, but that doesn’t mean he’s done talking about his former housemates. After he was unanimously voted out of the Big Brother game, Calafiore spoke to Entertainment Weekly about some of the things he said as cameras watched him 24/7.

Paulie made waves when he described fellow houseguest Natalie Negrotti as a “Jersey girl.” While the other houseguests (and many home viewers) took that as a derogatory comment, Calafiore says it was all just part of his strategy to get the female players out of the house.

“In the house, I needed as many of my alliance members’ heads as clear as possible, so I needed to put it in other people’s heads around the house to be able to take shots if they ever won the HOH. I didn’t want them to ever put up my guys, so as long as I kept it fresh in their minds that the girls needed to go. I said it amongst the guys, so that if we were the ones winning, another guy could take the shot and I would not have to.”

Paulie told TV Guide that one of his biggest mistakes was to let Natalie stay in the house as long as he did, especially because she got so close to James Huling.

“Hindsight will always be 20/20,” Calafiore admitted. “At the time, I didn’t understand how deeply she had her hooks into James.”

In addition to calling Natalie a “Jersey girl,” Paulie also came under fire for telling her that she’s as “fake as those things on your chest.”

While Paulie is downplaying his comments about Natalie as strategy, his brother, Cody Calafiore, said he knows what type of girl he was talking about.

In a video posted to YouNow, the Big Brother 16 runner-up said Paulie’s comment refers to a certain type of girl that uses guys to get their way. While Cody Calafiore says this type of girl doesn’t necessarily have to be from New Jersey, Negrotti does live there. Cody thinks Natalie is using her showmance, James, to get what she wants in the Big Brother game.

Paulie also talked about a future relationship with his own Big Brother showmance, Zakiyah Everette. When host Julie Chen asked Calafiore about the possibility of a romance with Zakiyah outside of the Big Brother game, he hesitated, which Julie took to mean as “no way.” Now, Paulie says there just isn’t enough time in the Big Brother game to gauge a real relationship.

“It is not about having interest in pursuing a relationship with Zakiyah as much as it is pursuing a relationship in general. I think relationships take time. It takes two people being at the right place at the right time and to base how people interact inside the Big Brother house is not realistic to how people will react outside the game. I have seen it from a personal level, so if anything I am preparing myself by setting realistic expectations to see what happens. I think she is a sweetheart and I will definitely stay in touch with her for the rest of my life. In the jury house, we will see what happens.”

Before Paulie’s eviction, Zakiyah told Us Weekly she isn’t ruling out a future with him — away from the cameras.

“Outside of the house I think he has potential,” Everette said. “You never know what can happen.”

Zakiyah may change her mind after she watches some of the live feed tapes back. After Paulie Calafiore’s exit, he talked smack about her on the live feeds. (You can see a video below.) But Paulie still says he will take Zakiyah to his best friend’s wedding next year.

“I made her a promise because she said she had never been to a wedding before that I would take her,” Calafiore told TV Guide. “I will stay true to my word and bring her if she will still want to go with me.”
