Selena Gomez Concert Targeted By Angry Protesters For Being ‘Too Sexy’

Selena Gomez’s recent “Revival Tour” stop in Malaysia was hit by protesters who claimed her show was “too sexy” for the country.

According to a number of fans attending Gomez’s show, a slew of protesters gathered outside the concert at Malawati Indoor Stadium in Shah Alam, Malaysia, on July 25, holding placards to protest Gomez and her “sexy” image.

Selena fan account Selena Gomez Spain uploaded a snap of the protest to Twitter on July 25, claiming that the protestors called Gomez’s show “too sexy,” while Selena fan account Gomez Source also shared images of a number of people gathered from outside the Malaysian venue before the concert.

The Star previously reported that some Malaysians were planning to protest Selena’s show, revealing that the protest was to be staged by a group called PAS Youth, who believed that Gomez’s concert could “tarnish” the city during Syawal, a holy month in the Islamic calendar.

According to the site, committee chairman Hafez Sabri condemned Selena’s Malaysia gig and claiming that Gomez’s “sexy appearance would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal.”

“The presence of the American-born singer, who is synonymous with sexy appearances, would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal which is being celebrated in earnest and further stoke the hedonistic culture among the country’s youths,” Sabri continued of Selena in a statement ahead of her tour stop in Malaysia.

“It is a priority and the responsibility of PAS Youth to ensure that there are no elements which can destroy the younger generation,” Sabri added of Gomez, claiming that he and the members of the PAS Youth group were “committed to opposing such a concert.”

But despite the group’s opposition, Selena’s Malaysia show went ahead, though fans revealed on Twitter that Gomez opted to steer clear of controversy by ditching a number of tour outfits she sported while playing shows across North America.

Selena Gomez fan @matsz claimed on Twitter that Gomez allegedly only wore one outfit throughout the entire show amid the protest, something they claimed Mariah Carey also did while performing in the country.

“Selena wears only 1 outfit for her concert here in Malaysia. Reminds me when Mariah first concert here, she did the same as to protest,” the Twitter user wrote.

Amid the protest drama, a number of Selena’s fans also took to social media to support Gomez, claiming that she covered up during the Malaysia show and was respectful of the country’s rules.

“#RevivalTourMalaysia thank God Selena don’t give a s*** about the protest and go on with the concert” @helllowina tweeted, while @jih00nnn wrote, “Pretty sure despite all the ridiculous protest at Selena’s concert venue, she’s already doing great in performing right now haha.”

“Selena is well covered than all those Malaysian artists and you still protest? You guys should double check,” @DanielDreyar added.

The protests come after it was revealed that Selena opted to show a little less skin during stops on her “Revival Tour” in certain countries.

According to fans, Selena added extra fabric to some of her shorter and more revealing stage costumes as well as including more covered up styles in her tour outfit rotation while performing in Indonesia on July 23.

“Really appreciate that Selena is covered up and wearing modest clothes. She looks gorgeous nonetheless” Twitter fan @marvelark wrote of Gomez’s outfit change, and @selenaxxoned tweeted out, “Selena removed her ‘too sexy’ visuals and covered herself up showing respect to the country’s religion. A legend.”

Selena is yet to officially speak out regarding the recent protests.
