‘Battlefield 1’ Data Mining Reveals Campaign, Multiplayer Modes, And More

Battlefield 1 is currently undergoing a closed alpha test with select members of the game’s community. One of those members took the time to data mine the shooter’s files to discover some of the content planned for release this fall to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The number of chapters in the campaign along with most of the titles was revealed along with available multiplayer modes and more.

The data mining efforts were posted to the Battlefield Reddit group by Lobix300. He was even nice enough to include a “sorry” note to Electronic Arts and DICE. Some of these items could be considered spoiler material so tread carefully as you read on.

What Lobix300 discovered is the Battlefield 1 single-player campaign contains seven episodes with 21 chapters between them. Some episodes, such as the Prologue, only have one chapter while some have four. Not all the chapters have names yet, but the named episodes and chapters do provide clues to the content of each. Episode 3: Mud and Blood, for example, will center on a tank crew’s travails during World War I. You can find the complete list of episodes and chapters at the end of this article.

As previously covered by the Inquisitr, each episode in Battlefield 1 will feature a different set of characters. This gives DICE the opportunity to take players to different locations like the Western Front, the Italian Alps, and the sands of Saudi Arabia. It also gives DICE the opportunity to challenge preconceptions about World War I by featuring characters based on little-known historical groups the all-black Harlem Hellfighters and a female Bedouin fighter in Arabia.

Some of the character names discovered so far from data mined subtitles include Pritchard, Mcmanus, Finch, Townsend, Edwards. There will obviously be many more.

On the multiplayer side, Rush is confirmed to return along with Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Air Superiority. New modes listed are Breakthrough, Possession, and Behemoth. The last on the list, Behemoth, has been hinted at as a new mode with both sides battling for control over massive vehicles such as an airship or military train that drives through the map.

Three will be 10 maps available at launch with Battlefield 1. Most or all of the maps will support 64 players. It is not clear yet if any will be geared towards smaller player counts or if they will simply all scale down to support 32 and 16 player matches.

The maps listed so far include “Amiens,” “Chateau,” “Desert,” “Fao Fortress,” “Forest,” “Argonne,” “Italian Coast,” “Mountain Fort,” “Scar,” and “Suez.” Note these names don’t line-up exactly with the maps revealed on the Battlefield 1 website so far, but do share the same qualities. For example, “Italian Coast” is likely “Empire’s Edge” and “Mountain Fort” is likely “Monte Grappa.”

The gadgets available to the different multiplayer classes were also discovered. As a reminder, the Medic role has now been split out into its own class for Battlefield 1 after being combined with the Assault class for the last couple of Battlefield titles. The remaining classes include the Support and Scout plus individual classes that players must select to drive or fly tanks and planes.

Here is the breakdown of the gadgets that will be available for each multiplayer class.
