Tupac Shakur’s Hummer Sells For Nearly $338K In Boston RR Auction

Tupac Shakur’s Hummer has reportedly been sold off for $337,114 in an auction.

The late New York rapper, born Lesane Parish Crooks, still sparks conversations and debates. Tupac is also widely considered one of the greatest rappers alive, and anything associated with him is no doubt of a high value. Such was the case when CNN reported that his Hummer had been sold in an auction on Thursday. It’s no secret that items held or signed by celebrities have a high dollar price on them, mostly for collection purposes. In this case, one auction winner saw fit to spend a pretty penny to acquire this vehicle.

Tupac’s most talked about event is his death. A drive-by shooting on September 7, 1996 left him wounded and record producer Suge Knight dead. Shakur died six days later, having only reached the age of 25. The controversy surrounding his death is widely known, further giving his name much weight. There are some who believe that Tupac Shakur is still alive, but this remains speculation (and constant material for comedic skits) at best.

Tupac had purchased the off-road vehicle just three months before his death. The auction winner has decided to remain anonymous in light of the purchase, though it’s been reported that they are a fan of the late artist. Shakur had customized the vehicle as well, making it a unique item to add to one’s collection. The Hummer is built with a 6.5 liter, turbo diesel V-8 engine that holds an automatic transmission. The vehicle was at a low 10,101 miles when it was auctioned off on Thursday.

Further customization of Tupac Shakur’s Hummer includes off-road lights, a grille guard, bumpers that are diamond plated, an external PA system that has three sirens, a 360-degree spotlight, and wheels and tires that boast a fairly large size. The interior is an entirely different matter. A beige leather upholstery sits on the inside, lined with burl wood. The sound system is a Clarion brand 12-disc holder, and a Sony GPS system is equipped to boot. If that isn’t enough to give Tupac’s Hummer an individualized touch, there’s also a central tire inflation system installed.

Robert Livingston, executive vice president of RR Auction, spoke highly of the vehicle and of the late hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur.

“It’s an incredible piece of hip-hop history that evokes the invincible spirit of one of rap’s true lyrical giants,” Livingston said. “We are thrilled at the price achieved and with the continued success of our specialty themed auctions.”

It comes as no surprise that Tupac Shakur would have such a lavish vehicle in his inventory. His mother, the late Afeni Shakur, had acquired the Hummer following his death. Several other individuals also had the Hummer in their possession before the auction had taken place. According to Fox Sports, the vehicle had previously been given away in a sweepstakes on BET.

Tupac Shakur’s Hummer is certainly a worthwhile purchase. It’s hard to argue the fact, especially with other questionable celebrity items going for values that might even exceed the Hummer’s final auction price tag. There are some who might attempt to sell a celebrity’s napkin, a “bag of air” that a celebrity may have been breathing around, or even an item with a fake signature. What that in mind, it’s not hard to believe that a celebrity vehicle of this degree of customization wasn’t going to remain in an auction for long. Surely, Tupac’s Hummer will be a highlight for the auction winner’s collection.
