As i sit here having a can of pepsi, it could also be that in my opinion coke just takes better!
Jul 28, 2009
Cool, but have you noticed that your headline reads PEPSI and not PEPSI?
Jul 28, 2009
Look, I couldn't even write it incorrectly! I meant, your headline reads: PESPI.

Hmmm… what about the “New Coke” years? It was a reaction to the Pepsi challenge that went beyond just re-branding to actually changing the flavour! Still love both though (regular coke > regular pepsi, diet coke < diet pepsi).
Jul 28, 2009
lol, true. Pespi is getting no respect in this article
Jul 28, 2009
wow pepsi went through tons of identity crisis. but i do prefer the taste of pepsi over coca cola

Jul 28, 2009

I always choose Coke over Pepsi. But remember New Coke?? That stuff was horrid and a huge mistake marketing wise.

here is a story, as told by an old friend: in 1992 Michael Jackson concerted in Romania, in front of over 70,000 people, in the National Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_in_Bucharest:…, , with the sponsorship of Pepsi. While the entire stadium was draped in Pepsi's commercials (to no direct benefit to the participants, of course), in the surrounding streets outside the stadium Coke had trucks parked and was giving away cold beverages … guess who's had the largest [marketing] impact?!? …

It could also be because Coke decide along time ago to market internationally by fronting poor resellers product and advertising while Pepsi focused domestically and bought complimentary product lines like Frito-lay. turns out there was alot more money to be made internationally…

Now we know… now we know…
Wow this is a great marketing lesson indeed… about the importance of consistency. Thanks!

Pepsi kept each one for at least 10 years and gained in market share Coke cant change with the times and therefore gift wraps market share for Pepsi. Remember coke once had a 100% of the market and louses more and more each year.

Ah nothing like a little revisionist history. Ever heard of New Coke?
Jul 31, 2009

This is so true!

It’s not the logo that’s important, it’s what the logo symbolizes. Coke’s message is timeless: “Enjoy a Coca-Cola and you’ll be a little happier.” Pepsi just chases whatever’s hot at the time, like pairing some flash-in-the-pan rapper with Bob Dylan in a Super Bowl ad.
