Derek Hough Cast As Corny Collins In Upcoming ‘Hairspray Live!’

Derek Hough has been cast as Corny Collins in the highly anticipated Hairspray Live! According to Us Weekly, Hough is just one of the most recent names that producers have announced to join the show. Fans are thrilled to hear that Hough will be a part of the cast, as he is an incredible talent.

“We are very happy to have the inimitable Martin Short to play Edna’s loving husband, Wilbur… We welcome Marty to the network in May in his new variety show with Maya Rudolph and we think he will be the perfect long-term companion to Harvey’s Edna. And hands-down the best dancer on television and one of the best in the entertainment business, Derek Hough, will be perfect in the role of Corny Collins, the cocky song-and-dance man who hosts the TV show every teenager in Baltimore wants to be on,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt in a statement.

Also a part of the Hairspray Live! cast are Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein. Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle, while Fierstein will play Edna Turnblad.

Derek Hough decided to sit out for the current season of Dancing With The Stars because he had other obligations to tend to. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Derek Hough inked a deal that landed him in the Broadway revival of Singin’ In The Rain.

Hough has had great success on Dancing With The Stars and has won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy a number of times. He won it back in 2008 with Brooke Burke, in 2010 with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, again in 2010 with Jennifer Grey, in 2013 with country star Kellie Pickler, and then again that same year with Glee star Amber Riley. Hough also won the Mirror Ball Trophy last year with Bindi Irwin, having one of the most rewarding seasons ever.

Derek Hough and the rest of the Hairspray Live! cast will be attempting to make television history when the show airs on NBC on December 7.

NBC aired The Sound Of Music Live! starring Carrie Underwood, Peter Pan Live! starring Allison Williams, and The Wiz Live! starring Amber Riley. Millions of people have tuned in to watch these live broadcasts, which have all had great ratings for the network. NBC will likely continue airing live musicals with star-studded casts because of their popularity.

As you can probably imagine, fans are thrilled for Hairspray Live! and are so happy to hear that Derek Hough has joined the cast!
