Ear Makeup Is Now A Thing

Believe it or not, it seems as though fashion-forward people are running out of places to put makeup. Perhaps that’s why some creative folks are placing makeup on their ears. Whether the makeup lands on the ear lobes or swirly part of the ear, it is a fashion first spotted on the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2016 runway.

As seen in the above photo, a model can be seen sporting makeup on the ear, with a striking short haircut to show off the silvery type of ear makeup. Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2016 ready-to-wear fashion collection was revealed in Paris, France, on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. The interesting look of the eyelashes is also noteworthy.

As trends from Paris Fashion Week and other runway shows tend to go, the ear makeup trend has found its way to the general public. As reported by Allure, in the article titled “I Tested the Ear-Makeup Trend So You Don’t Have To” by Sonaiya Kelley, assistant web producer for the website, the ear makeup trend even forced a New York subway rider to take notice of her ear for a couple extra seconds.

The writer’s ear makeup experiment came about after not being able to find her earrings.

“To keep my ears from looking too bare, I’ll test out the ear-makeup trend seen on the Louis Vuitton spring 2016 runway. The design was easy enough to draw on. I used Sephora Contour Inner Rim Gel Eyeliner in Mermaid Hair Don’t Care and just traced the folds of my left ear with the super-creamy pencil. I thought the line I drew was pretty crisp, but not until I saw a close-up picture of my ear did I realize it was actually pretty janky. Word to the wise: If you try to re-create this trend, you might want to enlist the help of a friend.”

Indeed, folks are re-creating the trend on their own, as witnessed by the handful of social media posts showing people sporting their own ear makeup. On Instagram, the hashtag #earmakeup currently has 23 posts, even though not all of those images show folks with cosmetics on their ears.

As seen in the following photo, one guy decided to use black for his color of ear make-up, using hashtags like “boy make-up” and “ear makeup” to go along with his photo.

Another photo seen in the studio_hair_makeup_naumenko Instagram account translates into English to describe how the unusual ear makeup trend is one that caught their eye. In that photo, simple stripes of red and white makeup appear on the ear.

Another Instagram photo of the ear makeup trend encourages fashionistas to be bold and different by sporting make-up on the ears.

The natural curves of the ear do seem like an artistic place to show off makeup, but one wonders if the wearers use earbuds or speaker phones to talk all day and avoid getting the cosmetics on their smartphones.

Other looks feature a totally silvery type of makeup surrounding the outer ear. Some of the varying ear makeup styles focus on coloring the earlobe, as seen in photos below.

The DIY instructions for recreating that black ear makeup look say that users can employ a black eyeliner that mimics an earcuff.
