NFL Rumors: Brian Hoyer Leaving Houston Texans For Denver Broncos

NFL rumors are swirling around Brian Hoyer. Now that the Houston Texans have acquired Brock Osweiler to be their new starter, the 30-year-old quarterback is said to be looking for a new home. Hoyer believes that he can still be a starter in the National Football League. Hoyer and the Texans are said to be headed toward a divorce soon, according to CBS Sports. Osweiler’s former team, the Denver Broncos, are said to be interested in signing Hoyer.

The Houston Texans hold all the cards with Brian Hoyer right now. They know that there is no need to rush into a decision with the former Michigan State Spartans star. The Texans can wait to see what other teams in the NFL do with their quarterback position before trying to capitalize by trading Hoyer to a team that is desperately looking for an upgrade at one of the most important spots on a football team.

Right now, the Denver Broncos are pretty desperate to upgrade their quarterback position. Peyton Manning retired, but that was expected. What was not expected was that Brock Osweiler would sneak out the back door and sign with the Houston Texans. Broncos general manager John Elway traded for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez, but he’s more of a stopgap solution than a long-term one. Denver still wants more help at the position.

Denver Broncos fans aren’t going to confuse Brian Hoyer with Peyton Manning. For all his flaws, Hoyer is a solid quarterback in the NFL. Those are becoming harder and harder to find nowadays. Considering how strong of a unit that Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has built, a solid quarterback is really all that Denver needs. They can still make it to the Super Bowl without a legitimate franchise quarterback. That’s how good Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware are.

Though they are still under the belief that Ryan Fitzpatrick will sign a new contract, the New York Jets are going to be keeping a close eye on the Brian Hoyer situation. He might be the stopgap solution because management isn’t quite confident in Geno Smith. Fitzpatrick is already irritated because the negotiations are taking much longer than expected, so it wouldn’t be a shock if he were to leave for another NFL team.

Another team that will be keeping an eye out on the Brian Hoyer situation is the San Francisco 49ers. They have a tough decision to make this week in regard to Colin Kaepernick. The team has to decide by Friday if they want to keep him around or not. If management opts to release him and avoid the contractual obligation, then they’re going to need to bring in someone to compete with Blaine Gabbert for the starting position.

An unexpected team that might be keeping an eye on Brian Hoyer is the Dallas Cowboys. They are still seeking a competent backup for Tony Romo, who suffered two collarbone injuries last season. The Cowboys liked what they saw in Kellen Moore, but they feel that he is someone that needs some more time to develop. Hoyer is someone that is capable of playing right away.

Brian Hoyer is far from being the biggest name in the NFL. In fact, most football fans probably aren’t aware of his existence. However, he’s a capable quarterback in the National Football League. Hoyer can make a difference for some team this upcoming season. For what it’s worth, Hoyer has a career quarterback passer rating of 82.2, which means that he’s more than competent when on the field. Plenty of teams could use that on their roster.
