Gwen Stefani Would Be ‘Blessed’ By Gay Son: Would Blake Shelton Be Supportive?

Gwen Stefani recently spoke out about how she would feel if one of her sons came out as gay, and it should come as no shock that the loving mother of three wouldn’t have an issue with this at all. But if Blake Shelton is still a part of Gwen’s life when nine-year-old Kingston, seven-year-old Zuma, and two-year old Apollo are old enough to start dating, would he be just as supportive?

During an interview with Pride Source, Gwen Stefani was quizzed on how she would react if one of her boys came out to her some day. According to Gwen, all she wants is for her children to be happy, and she’ll always strive to be “the most supportive mom” that she can be.

“I would be blessed with a gay son,” Gwen said. “You know that I would feel blessed about that.”

“I just want my boys to be happy and healthy, and I just ask God to guide me every day to be a good mother because it is not an easy job.”

Gwen Stefani is making sure that she’s fully prepared to raise a gay son by asking her adult gay friends about what life was like for them when they were younger. However, she doesn’t believe it’s as difficult to come out and be openly gay as it used to be, and it seems as though Gwen wouldn’t make a big deal out of one of her sons coming out.

“I always ask my gay friends, ‘OK, so what was it like when you were a little boy?’ Because I do know that it’s gotta be difficult to be the alternative, to not be the mainstream, or to be different, if you want to call it that,” Gwen said.

“I feel like it’s less and less (like that) these days, and it’s hard for me to understand because it doesn’t seem different or weird or anything anymore because it just seems so normal to me.”

The father of Gwen Stefani’s sons knows what it feels like to “not be the mainstream,” and he struggled with his sexuality so much that he tried to keep his attraction to the same sex a secret for years. However, during a 2010 interview with Details magazine, Gavin Rossdale came out as bisexual by revealing that he had a teenage romance with a cross-dressing male pop star named Marilyn Robinson.

A source later told the New York Daily News that Gavin begged the magazine not to publish his confession about Marilyn because Gwen was not aware of their relationship. According to Entertainment Tonight, Marilyn actually attended Gwen and Gavin’s 2002 wedding in London, and he was still in contact with Gavin at the time the Bush frontman and Gwen Stefani announced their divorce.

Marilyn Robinson said some people blamed him for breaking up Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s 13-year marriage, but most reports suggest that Gwen decided to ditch her husband after she discovered that he was cheating on her with one of their children’s nannies. Gwen and Gavin announced that they were divorcing last August.

Gwen Stefani has moved on from her failed marriage by dating country singer Blake Shelton. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Gwen Stefani and her sons are currently vacationing with Blake in his home state of Oklahoma, and they’ve been taking full advantage of their break from city life by hiking through the woods, shooting off fireworks, and going fishing. Below is a photo of Kingston showing off his big catch.

Gwen Stefani’s new boyfriend is starting to spend more time with her boys, and they’re likely beginning to view Blake Shelton as a bit of a father figure. Luckily, if Blake Shelton is still around when Gwen’s sons start dating, he won’t have an issue with them being romantically involved with members of the same sex.

According to Gwen, Blake is perfectly comfortable hanging out with her “big posse” of gay friends.

“It’s funny, too, because Blake’s mom was a hairdresser growing up, so he was definitely introduced to that world a looong time ago,” Gwen told Pridesource.

However, in 2011, Blake Shelton was accused of being homophobic after he rewrote a few lines of Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine.” His version was a bit more violent than Shania’s.

“Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song.. Any man that tries Touching my behind He’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy… “

According to Entertainment Weekly, GLAAD accused Blake of making anti-gay statements and called for him to apologize. Blake did issue an apology, but it turned out that the controversy was just one big misunderstanding — Blake explained that he had been rewriting Shania Twain’s song from her point of view.

“When it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings… I love everybody,” Blake tweeted.

GLAAD later thanked the star after tweeted that anti-gay violence is never okay, and Blake has definitely embraced man-on-man love since this incident — his bromance with fellow The Voice coach Adam Levine has become legendary. According to MTV News, Blake has admitted to having a massive man-crush on the Maroon 5 frontman.

“All I have to say is, it’s true: I have a man crush on Adam,” Shelton confessed. “I want to kiss him so bad. I don’t care if it’s mutual or not… He’s sexy, is the word I’m using.”

Hopefully, Gwen Stefani isn’t too jealous of Blake Shelton’s bromance with Adam.
