Sarah Paulson Does Not Want To Be Labeled A Lesbian

In December, news about American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson dating Holland Taylor was announced, and now Paulson, 41, is opening about her relationship with the 73-year-old actress.

Sarah Paulson said that she is in love with Taylor, but she does not want to be labeled a lesbian. This is not Paulson’s first relationship with a woman, as she dated 59-year-old actress Cherry Jones from 2004 to 2009. Before her relationship with Jones, Sarah dated and was engaged to actor and playwright, Tracy Letts.

Now, it seems that Paulson has found the love of her life in Holland Taylor, who she has been dating for over a year now. The two were present, hand-in-hand, at the Critics’ Choice Awards this year, but Paulson says that she does not want to be called a lesbian. In an interview with the New York Times, Paulson stated the following.

“If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that. What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that the person happens to be Holland Taylor.”

Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson first met 10 years ago, when Paulson was still in a relationship with Cherry Jones. They ran into each other again some years later when Martha Plimpton requested both Paulson and Taylor to record videos for her organization. Soon afterwards, Paulson and Taylor started messaging each other on Twitter, which led to a dinner date. They have been together since then.

In 2015, Sarah Paulson also talked more about her sexuality in an interview with Pride Source.

“All I can say is, I’ve done both, and I don’t let either experience define me. I don’t let having been with a man make me think I am heterosexual, or make me want to call myself that, because I know I have been attracted to women — and have lived with women. So, for me, I’m not looking to define myself, and I’m sorry if that is something that is seen as a rejection of or an unwillingness to embrace (my sexuality) in a public way, but it’s simply not. It’s simply what’s true for me, and that’s all I can speak to.”

Sarah Paulson also opened up to the New York Times about having older partners. Opening up about her relationships, Paulson said that she leaned towards her teachers for support as she had a difficult life at home. Because of that, as Sarah said, she has “developed a very easy rapport with people older” than herself.

It seems that Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor are enjoying each other’s company, but are there wedding bells on the horizon? Holland Taylor is not ruling out the idea, as reported by ET Online in December last year.

“I would not do that publicly. My relationship is with a woman, and I have not — given my generation it would not be something that would automatically occur to me. But she’s mentioned it because just from a spiritual point of view, from a heart point of view… as a deed that has a very rich symbolic gesture to it, it has its attraction.”
