Elton John, a music legend who has mentored some all-time greats in the past, recently offered his tutelage to One Direction star Harry Styles in order to help him succeed in his solo career.

It has been all over the news recently that the five members of one direction are breaking up. But Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson will not simply fade into obscurity; they all intend to pursue solo careers, report sources such as Vanity Fair.

“We’re losing one super-group and gaining five talented individual artists,” they wrote in their January 23 report on One Direction’s breakup.

While many One Direction bands mourn the dispersion of their favorite quintet, one fan in particular is looking to make the best of the situation: Sir Elton John.

Elton plans to do his part in softening the blow by lending his own highly prized mentorship skills to Harry styles in order to help Harry thrive in the musical world on his own.

Elton John recently talked to The Daily Star and told them how he loves what he has seen from Styles in the past.

“I’ve talked to a few of the One Direction boys. I’ve seen Harry a few times who is great and I’m always on hand to offer him advice.”

Harry Styles is not Elton’s first mentorship project, though. In fact, John has a great track record of helping artists that are now very successful to achieve fame. His pre-Styles tutees include Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, James Blake, and Tom Odell.

Sheeran in particular has done very well, touring alongside huge stars such as Taylor Swift. Sheeran also happens to be one of Harry’s good friends, so let’s hope that Styles can fare similarly well under Elton’s wing. It does not seem unlikely, since Harry is starting from a place of greater fame than Sheeran did.

Elton John has also been very vocal about helping Harry beat out the other members of One Direction, and especially Zayn Malik, in the race to success. He spoke to The Daily Star in an exclusive interview.

“Zayn has done unbelievably well. I don’t really know Zayn as well as I know the other four but I think he has released a great pop song.”

He went on to note he wants to help Harry overtake Zayn in the charts.

Styles is a big Elton John fan – Sugarscape reports Harry has been seen taking the subway to Eton’s shows in the past – so he is very excited about the opportunity he is being given even besides the fact that it is an absolutely huge boost to his career.

Harry Styles’ solo venture hasn’t even begun yet (the One Direction “hiatus” will not officially go into effect until March), and already he has one of commercial music’s all-time legends on board to help him succeed. In conjunction with the recognition and huge fanbase Harry has already accrued from his time with One Direction, Styles has quite a jumping-off point for his eponymous journey into the crazy world of the music biz.

Harry is, however, working hard to prepare himself for his departure despite his already-advantageous position. According to Uinterview, Styles is already hiring new management and practicing hard in the studio in anticipation of his first solo foray. Harry Styles is expected to release his first solo album in early 2017.
