Zooey Deschanel, Megan Fox Bond Over Motherhood On ‘New Girl’ Set

Zooey Deschanel and Megan Fox have been getting along on the set of New Girl. The star of the comedy recently opened up about the birth of her daughter, Elsie Otter, and on her newfound friendship with co-star Megan Fox.

Entertainment Tonight caught the two actresses bonding over motherhood at New Girl’s 100th episode party on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Deschanel, 35, says she loves talking to Fox, 29, about parenting. She even loves the fact that she can finally talk about her kids with another parent on set.

“She seems like a really good mom. It’s fun to talk about kids once you have them. I think when you don’t have kids you’re like, ‘Why are they talking about their kids so much?’ And then when you do have one you’re like, ‘All I want to do is talk about my kid!'”

Megan is way ahead of Zooey since she has two sons of her own, Noah, 3, and Bodhi, 2. But she revealed that there’s not much advice that she could give her fellow co-star.

“We’ve talked a lot about how when you have a new baby that’s all you talk about. We’ve talked about the birthing process and diapers and things like that. I didn’t give her any advice! She’s read every book already. There’s nothing that I can teach her.”

Deschanel welcomed her first child with husband Jacob Pechenik in August. Also, the couple got married secretly that same month. She gushed to ET about being a new mom.

“It’s the best. It’s so wonderful. I’m in love with my baby,” she added.

But having a new baby isn’t all butterflies and rainbows. Despite enjoying the joys that come with motherhood, the actresses revealed that it’s often tough to balance work and family.

“When you’re holding your baby, you’re like, ‘I don’t wanna go to work — this is like the best thing ever.’ But it’s nice, you know, I think, having a little girl, she knows her mommy works and I think that’s a good thing.”

Even Megan Fox agrees that raising her kids can be difficult since she’s a working mom. Not only is Fox starring in season 5 of New Girl, but she will also star in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows film. Fox also has been learning what it’s like to be a single mom since ending her 10-year-marriage from Brian Austin Green.

“It’s tough. You feel like a lot of mother’s guilt, having to leave [your child] all the time and then at a certain point, I had to just release that and go, ‘There are my kids, these souls came through me for a reason, they’re gonna be bonded to me no matter what and this is a part of life. I have a job, I have to have a job.’

“So I’m doing better with it. But it’s hard because you feel like that’s where you’re supposed to be and you’re very torn, constantly.”

The new moms didn’t get much time on set to bond though. Megan Fox has stepped in as a guest star while Zooey Deschanel was on maternity leave. Don’t expect Fox to stick around on the show. She’s not replacing Deschanel’s character of Jessica Day on the comedy. Instead, Fox will be playing the role of a “a straight shooting pharmaceutical rep” who needs to rent out Jessica’s room for a few months.

It should be interesting to see her mix with Jessica’s male roommates. Season 5 of New Girl is set to premiere on January 5 on the FOX Network. Are you looking to see Fox on the comedy? Or, will you miss Deschanel’s character? Sound off below in the comments section.
