Jimmy Fallon Called A ‘Mess,’ ‘High Functioning Alcoholic’: ‘Everything You’ve Heard Is True’

Jimmy Fallon has had quite an unfortunate history with injuries, while NBC executives and his friends worry that it’s all the result of heavy drinking.

Back in July, the 41-year-old father of two young children fell and caught his wedding ring on the corner of a table, nearly severing the finger. Over a month later, Jimmy Fallon shared with fans, via Instagram, he’d “Chipped front tooth trying to open tube of scar tissue repair gel for recovering finger injury.”

And then in late October, Jimmy Fallon tripped and fell while attending Cambridge to be honored by the Harvard Lampoon, Harvard University’s humor magazine. According to witnesses, the late night host was holding a bottle of Jägermeister and was extremely intoxicated at the time of the fall. The outcome: he hurt his right hand.

On Saturday, November 7, as reported by People, Jimmy Fallon arrived in Boston for the 21st annual Comics Come Home event, and mentioned his recent history of injuries by paraphrasing Chumbawamba’s 1990s classic “Tubthumping.”

“I fall down, but I get up again, you’re never gonna keep me down. I take a vodka drink and a Jager drink and a Jager drink…”

According to Jimmy Fallon, he made a trip to the ER of Massachusetts General Hospital and told them that he’d tripped holding a bottle of Jägermeister. The hospital staff responded in a rather unique way.

“OK, we have a whole waiting room for people who trip and fall with Jagermeister.”

One day before Halloween last month, Jimmy Fallon shared a Throwback Halloween photo of himself dressed up as one of his role models, Paul Reubens also known as Pee Wee Herman, according to People.

To become his role model for Halloween, the comedian wore a matching grey suit, yellow-ish shirt and small pink bowtie. But that’s not all.

His Pee Wee outfit also included a large cast on his left hand, which wasn’t part of the outfit. It is rather a part of Jimmy Fallon’s clumsiness. The Saturday Night Live alum mentioned the injury in the caption.

“Notice the bandaged finger. Some things never change.”

Then a few days later, Pee Wee Herman himself tweeted his reaction to Jimmy Fallon’s TBT.

But the Tonight Show host’s string of injuries is not something to laugh at, apparently. According to the New York Post, NBC executives are concerned that Jimmy Fallon’s frequent injuries and hospital visits are the result of drinking and excess partying.

Jimmy Fallon is “a mess,” according to a bartender who the New York Post identified as someone who regularly serves the comedian.

“Everything you’ve heard [about his drinking problems] is true.”

Jimmy Fallon’s former Saturday Night Live cast mate Horatio Sanz revealed to Vulture last year that he and Fallon were “super functioning alcoholics” back when they cooperated on the Saturday Night Live sketch show. Sanz also revealed that the comedian had been in a few bar fights during that time.

“They say that kind of goes hand in hand with SNL. Some kind of substance-abuse issues, because it’s so stressful you easily find yourself blowing off steam a lot.”

Sanz also said he’d “seen Jimmy clock a few people.”

However, neither Jimmy Fallon, nor NBC executives, have issued a formal statement on the matter of the comedian’s alleged drinking problem. The New York Post stated that an “industry insider” told the publication that NBC’s discussion about Jimmy Fallon’s drinking problem has “gone from being a whisper to a chatter.”
