‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Paul Wesley Claims Nina Dobrev’s Character Is Still ‘A Very Big Part’ Of The Show

Even if Nina Dobrev already made the decision to leave The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley recently claimed that her character would still have a pivotal part in the series. As the CW show prepares for its seventh season, Stefan and Damon will realize that Elena’s body is in danger.

Paul told TV Insider that he initially thought The Vampire Diaries would have a reboot following Nina’s departure. His impression, however, was wrong.

“Elena’s still a very big part of the story. Her body’s in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up. We all had imagined this complete reboot where Elena was gone, but she’s talked about so much!”

In the penultimate episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 6, Kai cursed Elena to remain in slumber as long as Bonnie’s alive. In an attempt to keep her body safe inside the Salvatore’s crypt, Bonnie did a cloaking spell.

It appears that new villains in Mystic Falls are trying to put Elena in danger. Will Stefan and Damon be able to come up with a way to protect Elena’s casket?

Elena Gilbert's body

Shielding Elena’s body is not Stefan’s sole concern because in the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries, he will likewise pursue Caroline harder. The new season is expected to feature more romantic scenes between the two.

Stefan Salvatore and Caroline Forbes

Journalist and actor Michael Ausiello was asked through TVLine by a fan about Stefan’s plan. According to Michael, the younger Salvatore will continue to be the “same loving guy he’s been for the past six seasons.” He added that Stefan will most likely use the “same tactics he did on Elena back in Season 1.”

Michael said that things wouldn’t be easy for the pair because Caroline is still dealing with the loss of her mother.

“Caroline wants to be with Stefan, but she’s also trying to do the right thing by herself, taking the time to mourn her mother’s death so she can enter into this relationship with a clean state and a free mind. The heart wants what it wants when it wants it, so we’ll see moments where’s she’s struggling, wanting to say something but not knowing what to say.”

Fans are wondering if the upcoming Vampire Diaries Season 7 will surprise viewers by introducing a “Steroline” baby. After all, Candice Accola-King is currently pregnant. She once joked that Stefan and Caroline would handle parenthood well because their “vamp speed” would help them change diapers quickly.

Meanwhile, Nina already bagged her first film project following her decision to leave The Vampire Diaries. The Canadian beauty will appear in Arrivals, a movie that follows the life of a Cape Town baggage claim handler who fell in love with Nina’s character, a flight attendant. Nina’s love interest will be played by Asa Butterfield. Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams will also join the cast.

Despite leaving the show, she told Entertainment Weekly that her support for her former cast mates would remain the same. “I can’t wait to see what the new season will look like. I’ll be watching. I’m very excited for my friends,” she gushed.

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 premieres on October 8 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
