Nicki Minaj Sitcom To Air On ABC Family, Ends #NickiSurprise Speculation

Rapper Nicki Minaj is reportedly heading into the world of TV sitcoms with her own life story.

Deadline reports that the 32-year-old rapper is working with ABC Family to develop a scripted comedy series based on her life as a child in Queens, New York.

According to the report, Nicki Minaj is very excited about embarking on this journey into previously unexplored territory for her career.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

The network is apparently just as excited about having the opportunity to share Nicki’s life story with the rest of the world through this televised project. Karey Burke, ABC Family’s EVP of Programming and Development, made that clear in an official statement.

“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

The news of a Nicki Minaj sitcom served as a huge surprise for the Young Money rapper’s fans as well — especially since she kept them on a hook for quite some time with the trending hashtag #NickiSurprise.

Leading up to the big announcement of her ABC Family sitcom project, Nicki used #NickiSurprise to pique her followers’ curiosity and keep them hooked until the big reveal occurred.

Quite a few fans assumed that the surprise announcement would finally confirm the rumors that Nicki Minaj is pregnant with her first child.

Others were just excited by the simple fact that Nicki Minaj had a surprise announcement to offer at all.

After an extended period of waiting, Nicki Minaj squashed the rumors and ended the speculation by retweeted the confirmed news of her ABC Family sitcom.

Even though this will be Nicki Minaj’s first sitcom, the Starships rapper has shown off her acting chops on the small-screen as well as the movie screen in the past.

She had a supporting role in the 2014 comedy, The Other Woman, starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton.

Nicki also had a chance to show off her hilarious impressions of Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé on an episode of Saturday Night Live last year.

The Ice Age: Continental Drift voice actress will be able to promote her first starring role when the Malcolm D. Lee-directed film, Barbershop 3, arrives in theaters next year.

According to Forbes, Nicki Minaj’s “continued participation in such projects could prove a shrewd career move in the long run.”

If her as-yet untitled TV comedy series becomes a huge success, Nicki Minaj could possibly find herself joining the relatively short list of rappers that have made successful transitions into the acting world — alongside such acts as Will Smith and LL Cool J. Until then, she will undoubtedly continue to enjoy the support and appreciation that her fans have for her highly successful career as a recording artist.
