Mark Wahlberg Asks The Pope To Forgive Him For ‘Ted’

Mark Wahlberg found religion a long time ago, but he’s only recently spoke out about the kind of difference it made in his life. So, it wasn’t a surprise to learn that Wahlberg used his star power to meet the church’s holiest person — the Pope. As many know, the Pope made his way to the United States, and Wahlberg took advantage of this.

That said, it’s what Wahlberg did during the meeting that has people scratching their heads. Just to give a bit of perspective, Pope Francis visited prisoners convicted for murder and rape, and Wahlberg decided to ask to be forgiven for his raunchy comedy, Ted.

So, how did this meeting occur? Well, according to Entertainment Weekly, Mark Wahlberg was at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, which is a festival that he was headlining. While introducing acts such as Aretha Franklin, Juanes, and The Fray, Wahlberg decided to take the moment to ask Pope Francis for forgiveness. A soloist had brought up the raunchy comedy, and Wahlberg simply laughed, and then said to the Pope, “Holy Father, please forgive me. I’ve always hoped that the good Lord has a sense of humor when it comes and pertains to many of the movies that I’ve made.” As you might have guessed, Twitter reacted to this bit in the best of ways.

This isn’t the first time Wahlberg has brought up religion. Back in 2012, the actor famously beat a Vietnamese immigrant while trying to steal from said immigrant’s convenience store in 1988. During the attack, Wahlberg shouted racist vitriol at the immigrant. After the attack, Wahlberg spent 45 days in jail for the assault. During this time, the actor said he found his faith in God, which he used to turn his life around and focus on bettering himself as a person.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Wahlberg said, “Jail was definitely a wake-up call for me. I was 16-years-old, I was arrested and tried as an adult.”

“I had to make the choice personally, and then I had to focus on my faith. My faith has allowed me to overcome a lot of things. And hard work. Nothing comes easy, especially when you have your back against the wall and have a lot of thing coming at you. I wanted to prove through my actions, not my words, that I was going to change and make a positive impact on the community that I come from.”

Wahlberg keeps his faith in his life by going to church every day. Although the actor has a busy schedule and is usually on location, he said that he starts off each morning by going to church. He doesn’t necessarily attend mass every day, but he admits that he says his prayers during the first fifteen minutes of his day.

He said during this time he gets to focus on his day, while showing his gratitude. Wahlberg also mentioned that it helps him clear his head and focus on his “actions” as well as the “elements” in his life that he has to avoid.
