One Million Moms Calls New ‘Muppets’ ‘Perverted’ And Demands Cancellation

One Million Moms thinks the new Muppets is “perverted” and not appropriate for children. In fact, they have already called for ABC to cancel the new comedy mockumentary that will follow the lives of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the gang this season.

The Muppets only premiered on Tuesday night, but One Million Moms was in an uproar over the series before the premiere even aired earlier this week.

According to Zap2It, One Million Moms released their statement against the series on their website on Wednesday. Their statement slammed ABC for releasing the new series and “ruining” the characters.

“The mature version of ‘The Muppets’ will cover a range of topics from sex to drugs. Miss Piggy came out as a pro-choice feminist during an MSNBC interview. The puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on interspecies relationships and promiscuity. ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined ‘The Muppets.'”

To anyone that watched the new series on Tuesday, it became quickly apparent that this new The Muppets was nothing like the original variety show that aired in the 1970s. The new series focuses on the behind the scenes relationships of the characters many television viewers grew up watching.

There are big differences. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy’s break-up has been highly publicized as a tool to bring viewers in. Both Kermit and Miss Piggy made statements about their split on social media, and they spoke about their continued working relationship for the series.

Fans that tuned in to watch the premiere saw the break-up moment in a flashback, and Miss Piggy pushed down her tough façade for a moment to show that she is a pig with “real” emotions. During a late night talk show appearance, Miss Piggy and Kermit talked about their new relationship. Miss Piggy is dating anyone she can, and Kermit is dating another pig named Denise.

According to a previous Inquisitr report, the news of Denise and Kermit’s relationship stirred things up a few weeks back. Kermit went to Twitter to deny the relationship, but the premiere shows that Kermit and Denise are dating. Fans received a small peek into their relationship.

Was the introduction of a new relationship for Kermit too soon? Some might think so. A 40-year-long relationship deserves a little bit more respect than a flashback to the end and one half already moved on happily into a new relationship.

However, One Million Moms is not mad about the split. They are mad about the content of the series. The humor, the storylines, and the character’s behavior has them in an uproar. It is the “perverted nature” of the series that has them mad and demanding the cancellation of the series.

Jim Henson never meant for The Muppets to be a nice show. He always meant for the characters and their stories to be a bit more “adult” in nature. His son spoke about his father’s vision for the series in an interview, according to a previous Inquisitr report.

“The years with the Muppets, it was really all targeted to adults. It was in a time when everything had to be safe for the whole family. But he was targeting adults.”

Bob Kushell, the writer behind the series, has already spoken out to defend the more adult nature of the show. According to Digital Spy, he said, “Part of the excitement of doing this show is to see where we can push the envelope, but never push it so far that the adults feel embarrassed to watch it in front of their kids. That will never happen.”

However, One Million Moms feels like that has already happened. The first episode featured jokes about boob jobs, sex, a relationship between a woman and Fozzie Bear, and more, in just a short 30-minute long episode.

Viewers did tune in though. The series had 8.9 million viewers, according to Entertainment Weekly. That is more than the Fox premiere of Scream Queens. Only four million tuned in to watch that series debut.

What is next for The Muppets? Spoiler TV shared the photos for The Muppets Season 1 Episode 2, and Josh Groban is featured in several of the photos. The episode is titled “Hostile Makeover.”

What did you think of the new Muppets? Will you keep tuning in to the series? The Muppets will air on Tuesday nights on ABC.
