Rachel McAdams’ ‘Doctor Strange’ Role Confirmed, Not Yet Revealed – What Could It Be?

Rachel McAdams will be in Doctor Strange, it has been confirmed. It isn’t yet known what her role will be in the Benedict Cumberbatch Marvel superhero film. Her role in the film was confirmed at the Toronto Film Festival, according to the Wrap, though Marvel has yet to comment.

As fans of Doctor Strange already know, it all begun when Stephen Strange was a child, where his sister needed medical help. He aided her affliction and decided to become a doctor himself. Eventually, his medical accomplishments and know-how made him arrogant, says the official Marvel Wiki. The death of his mother, Beverly, weighed on him morally, to the point where he had become callous. When Beverly’s husband fell ill, Stephen refused to visit his death bed. His brother, Victor, confronted him about the fact and was quickly hit by a car. Stephen felt responsible for the accident and placed Victor in cold storage before he also was involved in a car accident.

The accident gave him permanent nerve damage in his hands, ruining his career as a neurosurgeon. It was then that he followed a rumor and traveled East to find The Ancient One and claim his destiny as the Sorcerer Supreme.

With a few prominent women in Stephen Strange’s life, Rachel McAdams could have some strong possibilities for her upcoming role. She might play the role of Stephen’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) mother, Beverly, a reminder of his human side and sense of responsibility, much like Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben.

Another prominent female role was actually made that way when The Ancient One was turned from the comics’ Asian male character into Tilda Swinton, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. This is one role that will probably not change as young Stephen Strange grows up, since being ancient probably means age won’t be as noticeable over the years.

Rachel McAdams might also play a role hinted at by the plot of Thor: The Dark World. In that film, we were introduced to the dark elves and their ruler, Malekith. That same world could end up ruled by Dormammu, whose niece was Clea, Doctor Strange’s love interest in the comics. Rachel might be cast in the role of Clea.

There aren’t a lot of major female roles in the story of Doctor Strange, though he has had encounters which won’t happen in the films due to movie rights (Fox still owns the Fantastic Four). Marvel has been known for finding ways to write characters out of classic storylines, such as the upcoming Civil War, which will be lacking the X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four.

The Doctor Strange release date is set for November 4, 2016, according to Yahoo News.
