Who will be the next American Idol? Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips gave their final performances on Tuesday night and tonight one will be crowned the winner.
During Tuesday night’s show, Phillips and Sanchez sang their final three songs in the hopes of winning America’s vote. The judges seemed like they were leaning toward Phillips at the end of the night, but who knows who America will vote for.
Sanchez didn’t have her best night on Tuesday. Sanchez started with Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” and followed that with “The Prayer.” If the show ended with Sanchez’ “The Prayer” she would probably be the favorite heading into tonight’s finale, but after her third song, “Change Nothing,” the judges were left unsure of who would take the American Idol crown.
Tyler said that the song was “just OK” and that he “didn’t feel like that was the proper song” to sing for the finale.
Do you think Sanchez’ song selection on the final night will hurt her chances of becoming the next American Idol?
After the show, Sanchez said that she hopes that she wins, but she’s really just happy to be in the top two.
“Of course we all want to win, but it gets to a point where nobody really makes it this far. I love that I’m with [Phillip] in the top two. It’s amazing. He’s goofy and he’s funny and he is an amazing artist and an amazing person overall.”
Phillip Phillips ended his run on American Idol with a bang. Phillips started the night with “Stand By My,” followed by “Movin’ Out.” He closed his three song set with “Home,” which was the only song of the night to earn a standing ovation.
Jackson said: “Dude. I love the song. I love you. I love the production. I love the marching band.”
Lopes added: “What was moving about that was that it was so different. I couldn’t think of any other singer or band that you sounded like.”
Here’s Phillip Phillips singing “Home.”
