The Weeknd Sets Records With New Album, ‘Beauty Behind the Madness’

The Weeknd has been having a pretty good year so far, but with the release of his new album, Beauty Behind the Madness, the singer has ensured that he’ll be around for a while longer. According to Billboard, the album debuted at No. 1 on both the Top 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, as well as selling 326,000 copies in the week ending September 3. The album also earned the title of second biggest album released in 2015.

Combining 10 hits from Beauty Behind the Madness with two that are already out by The Weeknd, the singer currently has 12 songs, out of 14 from the album, on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for the week ending September 19. That means The Weeknd can claim the most songs concurrently on the chart by a non-rapper in a single week.

The only two hits from the album that are not on the chart currently are “Often” and “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Gray)”, the two that have already had their stint on the chart for 27 and 31 weeks respectively, with “Earned It” as No.1 for two weeks during that time. The two songs that were already on the chart before the rest of the album was debuted are “The Hills” and “I Can’t Feel My Face,” which is currently at its 8th week as No. 1.

In addition to all of this, The Weeknd has earned a few more titles to his name. Since T.I. back in 2008, The Weeknd is the first solo male artist to have two songs in the top three in the same week. His songs, “I Can’t Feel My Face” was at No. 2, and “The Hills” was at No. 3. The Weeknd also claims the place of 6th artist in the 57 years of the Hot 100 to have 10 or more songs on the chart at the same time. The five artists in front of The Weeknd include The Beatles, Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Drake, and David Cook.

Another title The Weeknd can claim is the second artist, behind Usher in 2004, to have four songs on the Rhythmic Song chart as No. 1 all in the same year. These songs were “The Hills”, “Love Me Harder” (with Ariana Grande), “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Gray)”, and “I Can’t Feel My Face”. The Weeknd earned this title when “The Hills” jumped 4-1 on the chart. Beauty Behind the Madness also set another record with the best weekly sales this year on the R&B Albums chart, as well.

With all of the records the album and its track list has set, there’s no doubt that Beauty Behind the Madness is a big success for The Weeknd.
