New from Mattel: Tramp Stamp Barbie

tramp-stamp-barbie

Mattel has launched a new range of Barbies that allow little girls to add tattoos to their dolls.

The new Barbie dolls are part of Mattel’s “Totally Tattoos” range, and include tattoos of hearts, flowers, stars, rabbits, butterflies, and a Barbie silhouette. One tattoo though includes a heart and Ken’s name, and is perfectly sized as a tramp stamp on the lower back, as per the picture above.

The Daily Mail reports that not everyone is happy with the move, with one expert claiming that it further sexualizes children’s play. Mattel argues that “This type of open-ended, creative play is a healthy form of self expression that Barbie brings to girls.”

You mean altering your body; permanently scarring yourself is a “healthy” form of self expression? No offense to those with tattoos, but there's a reason it's considered slightly taboo, it's changing your physical appearance, we should be telling girls they don't have to add or change a thing about themselves to be pretty or popular, not encouraging them to do something like that. If some day they choose to, let it be on their own, not because they've been told they should.

Its stupid that will make my 5 year old want one beacuse she wants almost everything barbie has and it is making it seem right to have a tattoo! its like making a barbie movie with cusing in it would you do that.

  3. Elizabeth, I think you've got bigger fish to fry if your daughter “wants everything Barbie has.” I had a Shaving-Fun Ken doll and that didn't make me want to douse myself in Old Spice and use a pink razor to trim my beard.

At the same time, I had friends that have been tattooing their Barbies with markers for years (decades), so this makes no sense to me at all. Artistic expression, sure, but there's cheaper ways for parents to do it.

  4. WTF? The shameless execs at mattel probably have dollar bills as tramp stamps………Although they have now made me feel good for all of the things I have done that made me feel moral-less. Whats next “Hoe on the corner Barbie” Let Ken play while Barbie gets paid to lay.? Parents that let thier daughters get one of these sould be reported for child abuse

  5. Its funny I only recently heard the term tramp stamp and now it seems to be every where. I even found a free website dedicated to tramp stamps, http://www.trampstampnation.net. I think matel takes it a little to far on barbies but I dont think there is anything wrong with tattoos on adults.

Barbie, you USED TO BE AN ASTRONAUT… NOW WTF? You were a doctor… A PHD! But now you tramp stamp that pimp's name on your body like some common RUSSIAN WH*RE? RRRRAAAAAGGGGEEEE! I want to meet the committee that green lit this and WASTE THEM! PIMP THEM OUT! TRAMP STAMP A SLAVE TATTOO ON THEIR ASSES….

  9. How dare they? So angry… Anyone who didn't like the 50th anniversary Barbie… Get out of the room now.

  10. Self expression? Just more brainwashing for the next generation starting at childhood.
